Job Overview: The Junior Graphic Designer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a project in collaboration with the Municipality of São Paulo. This position requires the designer to develop a comprehensive layout for an institutional report that consists of 11 independent chapters, ensuring visual consistency and adherence to UN-Habitat's branding guidelines. The designer will be responsible for applying established visual language, creating templates, and ensuring that all chapters are cohesively presented. This role also involves designing infographics and other graphic elements to enhance communication and clarity of information. The designer will work closely with the technical team, incorporating feedback and revisions throughout the project lifecycle, and will be expected to deliver both editable source files and final files suitable for print and digital formats.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Graphic Designer's responsibilities include:
Developing the layout and typesetting for an institutional report composed of 11 chapters, ensuring visual consistency and alignment with UN-Habitat's branding.
Applying established publication layouts and visual language to create templates and content designs.
Designing and typesetting each chapter, organizing text, images, charts, tables, and other visual elements.
Creating infographics, diagrams, and icons to enhance information clarity.
Incorporating revisions from the technical team during the review process.
Preparing and delivering both editable source files and final files according to project specifications.
Completing required training courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS, during the first month of employment.
Familiarizing oneself with UN security mechanisms and complying with them as per the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Alternatively, candidates with three additional years of relevant technical experience beyond the educational requirement will also be considered. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible graphic design experience in Brazil is required, with preference given to those with experience in development or non-profit projects. Familiarity with urban issues and global agendas related to urban development is desirable, as is previous experience within the UN System or other international agencies. Proficiency in graphic design software, particularly the Adobe suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Canva, is essential, along with strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required. Candidates with additional relevant experience may substitute for formal education. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in design principles and communication strategies.
Experience: The position requires at least three years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, specifically within Brazil. Candidates with experience in development or non-profit sectors will be preferred. Familiarity with urban issues and previous work within the UN or international agencies will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the working language of the Regional Office. Proficiency in English and French is also beneficial, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset due to its relevance in the Regional Office's operations.
Additional Notes: This position is home-based and expected to last for two months. The contract is on a local basis, and only nationals from Brazil or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The contract's extension is contingent upon the availability of funds and performance, and it is not automatically granted.
