Job Overview:
The Data Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the 'Vida Nova no Morro' project, which aims to improve urban conditions in informal settlements in Niterói. This position involves working closely with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to collect, analyze, and manage data related to urban development. The Data Assistant will assist in the development of social housing policies, engage with community members, and contribute to evidence-based planning and housing assessments. The role requires a strong understanding of urban issues, data analysis, and the ability to communicate findings effectively to support public policy planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Assistant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the calculation of variables and indicators; extracting and analyzing data from public databases; providing technical support for data management; creating georeferenced information; supporting research on favelas; revising documents related to spatial data; organizing capacity-building activities; drafting analyses of program results; documenting expert meetings and training events; maintaining orderly information files; and ensuring compliance with project deadlines and budgets. The Data Assistant will also participate in missions as required and complete necessary training courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, or related disciplines. A postgraduate degree is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in urban project management, data analysis, and public policy. Proficiency in data visualization and experience with GIS software are essential. Familiarity with programming languages like R or Python is also required, along with knowledge of project management methodologies and tools for data sharing and version control.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, Architecture and Urbanism, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Statistics, or related fields is required. A postgraduate degree in similar fields is desirable and can enhance a candidate's profile. Candidates with additional relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal educational qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in project or program management related to urban themes in Brazil. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in data analysis, report generation, and public policy development. Previous experience within the UN System is considered an asset, as it indicates familiarity with the organization's processes and standards.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication within the local context. Proficiency in English and Spanish is desirable, as these are working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and the Regional Office, respectively. Strong communication skills in these languages will facilitate collaboration with international teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract is for a duration of ten months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The position is classified under the LICA contract type with UNOPS, and the consultant will receive remuneration according to the UNOPS Salary Scale, along with Cigna health insurance. The position is open to nationals from Brazil or external candidates holding a permanent visa in Brazil.
