Job Overview: The Communications Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the 'Vida Nova no Morro' project, which aims to enhance urban conditions in informal settlements in Niterói, Brazil. This position involves developing and executing communication strategies that align with UN-Habitat's goals, ensuring effective outreach to various stakeholders, including local communities, UN agencies, and partners. The analyst will be responsible for creating communication materials, managing social media content, and coordinating advocacy campaigns. The role requires a proactive approach to engage with the community and disseminate information about the project, ensuring that the objectives of sustainable urban development are met. The Communications Analyst will also be expected to maintain a strong online presence for the project and contribute to the overall visibility of UN-Habitat's initiatives in Brazil.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Developing and implementing project-specific communication plans that align with UN-Habitat Brazil's communication strategy.
Organizing advocacy campaigns, events, and workshops to promote project objectives.
Creating and disseminating communication products such as brochures, press releases, and social media content.
Coordinating communication activities among project teams and the UN-Habitat Brazil communications team.
Maintaining relationships with media and partners to ensure effective outreach and information sharing.
Producing content for UN-Habitat's websites and managing social media accounts.
Documenting project events through photography and audiovisual materials.
Ensuring compliance with branding guidelines and maintaining a consistent visual identity for the project.
Reporting on communication activities and performance indicators related to the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. A postgraduate degree in these areas is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of four years of progressively responsible communications experience at the national or international level. Experience working with local governments, civil society, and advocacy initiatives is essential, along with familiarity with the Brazilian context. Skills in media relations, social media content management, and participatory digital methodologies are also highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing and proofreading skills in Portuguese, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required. A postgraduate degree in these areas is considered an asset. Candidates with additional relevant experience beyond the educational requirements may also be considered.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience in communications, particularly in roles that involve project management, advocacy, and media relations. Experience working within the Brazilian context and familiarity with urban issues are crucial. Previous experience in the UN system or with international agencies is desirable, as is experience in managing social media and producing content for various platforms.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Brazil. A working knowledge of English is desirable, given that English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Spanish is also beneficial, particularly for interactions with the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is expected to last for ten months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. The consultant will be required to travel within Brazil as necessary for project activities, with travel expenses covered by UN-Habitat according to United Nations travel guidelines. This position is open to Brazilian nationals or external candidates holding a permanent visa in Brazil. The role is classified under the LICA contract type, and remuneration will be based on the UNOPS Salary Scale.
