Job Overview: The Communications Senior Associate (Translator/Interpreter) position at UNOPS is a critical role that requires a highly skilled professional to support the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Capacity Development Programme. The primary function of this position is to provide precise and consistent translation of complex technical materials, ensuring that all communications are clear and effective. The role also involves acting as a technical interpreter, facilitating communication between international staff and Ukrainian partners. Duties and Responsibilities:
Translate complex technical documents from English to Ukrainian and vice versa, ensuring accuracy and consistency in terminology and style.
Provide interpretation services during meetings, workshops, and conferences, facilitating effective communication between international staff and local partners.
Collaborate with project teams to understand the context and nuances of the materials being translated, ensuring that the translations are culturally relevant and appropriate.
Review and edit translations produced by other team members to ensure high-quality output.
Maintain a glossary of technical terms and phrases to ensure consistency across all translations.
Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations, ensuring that all materials are accurately translated and formatted.
Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance language skills and technical knowledge relevant to the role.
Provide feedback and recommendations for improving translation processes and tools used within the organization.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in translation and interpretation, particularly in technical fields related to EOD or similar areas.
Strong understanding of both English and Ukrainian languages, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with technical terminology and concepts related to the EOD Capacity Development Programme.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using translation software and tools is an advantage.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in translation, linguistics, communications, or a related field is required.
Additional certifications in translation or interpretation are highly desirable.
Relevant training or coursework in technical writing or communication is a plus.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in translation and interpretation, with a focus on technical materials.
Experience working in an international organization or in a multicultural environment is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in English and Ukrainian, both written and spoken.
Good to have: Knowledge of Russian or other languages relevant to the region is an advantage.
Additional Notes: This position is offered on a 6-month contract basis, with a total of 130 working days. The role is classified at the Associate level (ICS 07) and is categorized under the ICA - LICA - Support - Retainer contract type. Candidates should be prepared to work in a dynamic environment and may be required to travel within Ukraine as part of their duties.
