Job Overview: The Unit Head of the Nuclear Data Development Unit is responsible for leading a team of physicists and support staff in nuclear data activities. This role involves developing international guidelines and assisting Member States in enhancing the peaceful use of nuclear technology in both fission and fusion energy technologies, as well as non-energy applications like medical isotopes. The Unit Head will also be tasked with developing and implementing new training programs and providing technical assistance to Member States upon request. Reporting to the Head of the Nuclear Data Section, the Unit Head will play a crucial role in planning and developing nuclear databases that support nuclear energy and non-energy research on a global scale. This position requires a combination of program development, scientific expertise, and project management skills to effectively coordinate and evaluate complex research projects and technical meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Unit Head will oversee and manage the staff and activities of the Nuclear Data Development Unit, providing authoritative leadership and technical input to reports and databases prepared by staff. Key responsibilities include supporting the Section Head in planning and monitoring the program and budget, developing and implementing the Agency's nuclear database programs, identifying critical needs for improved nuclear physics data, promoting and coordinating complex Coordinated Research Projects (CRPs), leading the International Nuclear Data Evaluation Network (INDEN), developing international recommendations for nuclear databases, and conducting training on complex technical topics. The Unit Head will also provide guidance and technical input for report preparation and ensure effective collaboration with technical departments, Member States, and international organizations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Nuclear Physics or a related field, with a PhD considered an asset. A minimum of ten years of relevant experience is required, including at least three years at the international level. Proven experience in nuclear reaction and/or nuclear structure data activities is essential, along with experience in a national or international nuclear physics organization. Staff management experience, particularly in developing technical databases and scientific software, is also necessary. Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory, and knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in Nuclear Physics or a closely related field. A PhD is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile for this role, indicating a higher level of expertise and research capability in the field of nuclear sciences.

Additional Notes: The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103,165, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
