Job Overview:
The Safeguards Information Analyst plays a crucial role in the IAEA's nuclear verification mission by conducting comprehensive analyses of various sources of safeguards-relevant information. This position is integral to the Department of Safeguards, which is responsible for ensuring that nuclear materials are not diverted from peaceful uses. The analyst will be involved in the preparation of annual State evaluation reports, utilizing open-source information and other relevant data to support the Department's verification efforts. The role requires a combination of leadership, analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information from multiple sources, including scientific literature, nuclear trade data, and satellite imagery. The analyst will also be responsible for developing strategies for knowledge management and open-source information collection, ensuring that the Department remains at the forefront of nuclear safeguards analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Safeguards Information Analyst will be tasked with collecting, analyzing, and reporting on information pertinent to designated States. This includes reviewing scientific and technical information, as well as nuclear trade-related data, to support the Department's verification mission. The analyst will provide expert analysis through analytical reports, evaluating all safeguards-relevant information, including nuclear material accounting data and results from infield activities. Additionally, the analyst will develop new methodologies for information collection and evaluation, participate in departmental working groups, present findings, and lead training initiatives for other staff members. The role also involves leading project teams to create new software tools for data processing and assessment, ensuring that the Department's analytical capabilities are continuously enhanced.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with a Master's degree preferred. A first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of seven years of experience in nuclear non-proliferation or safeguards information analysis, with a strong background in multi-source analysis. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in developing methodologies for analyzing complex data and have experience with the proliferation risks associated with globalization. Knowledge of export controls and customs activities related to nuclear materials is advantageous. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory, and proficiency in other official IAEA languages is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or technical field, such as physics, chemistry, or engineering. An advanced university degree is preferred, particularly in areas related to non-proliferation studies and analysis. Candidates with a strong academic foundation in sciences or technology will be better equipped to handle the analytical demands of the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in nuclear non-proliferation or safeguards information collection and analysis. Candidates should have a proven track record in multi-source analysis and the ability to integrate disparate analyses into cohesive analytical products. Recent experience in assessing proliferation risks and familiarity with nuclear-related procurement and export controls will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language of the IAEA. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

The IAEA offers a competitive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at approximately US $86,027, along with a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, and other allowances.
