Job Overview: The Driver position is a critical role within the Administrative and Client Support (ACS) team at the World Bank's Country Office in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau. This position is essential for providing reliable, safe, and professional transportation and logistical support to facilitate the smooth operation of the office and the effective delivery of the Bank's initiatives in the region. The Driver will be responsible for transporting teams to various meeting venues and field trips, ensuring that all travel is conducted under high professional standards. The role requires a service-oriented individual who can manage competing schedules and adapt to a fast-paced environment, including field missions in challenging terrains. The Driver will report directly to the Resident Representative and will play a vital role in maintaining the operational integrity of the office by ensuring that all vehicles are in excellent condition and that all driving tasks are executed with utmost professionalism and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: driving teams to meeting venues and field trips while maintaining a high level of professionalism; ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of passengers during travel; maintaining assigned vehicles in clean and good condition, including recording mileage and gasoline consumption; performing daily inspections of the vehicle to prevent breakdowns; collecting and disseminating correspondences to government officials and stakeholders; following up on tax exemptions and vehicle registrations; and handling any fiduciary tasks assigned by the Administrative Unit. The Driver must also demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with officials at ministries and embassies, ensuring that all interactions are handled professionally and that deadlines are met.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma and have at least five years of driving experience, along with a solid understanding of auto mechanics. A valid driver's license for 4x4 vehicles and minibuses is required, as well as a recent certificate of fitness to drive. Additional qualifications include a training certificate in first aid from the Red Cross, a certificate in auto mechanics, and any technical training in electronics or electricity. Experience working in an international institution is considered an advantage. Proficiency in both English and Portuguese, both spoken and written, is mandatory, and knowledge of MS Office is desirable.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma. Candidates with additional training or certifications related to driving, auto mechanics, or first aid will be viewed favorably, as these qualifications enhance the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the role effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of driving experience, with a strong emphasis on knowledge of auto mechanics. Familiarity with the geographical area of Cabo Verde and the surrounding countries within the Senegal Country Management Unit (Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and The Gambia) is beneficial. Experience in an international context is also advantageous, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate diverse operational environments.
Languages: Proficiency in Portuguese is essential, as all interactions with local stakeholders will be conducted in this language. Additionally, a good command of English is required for effective communication within the World Bank Group. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
