Job Overview: The Driver position is a critical role within the Administrative and Client Support (ACS) team at the World Bank's Bissau Country Office. This position is designed for a responsible and service-oriented individual who will provide reliable and professional transportation and logistical support to facilitate the smooth operation of the office. The Driver will be expected to manage competing schedules and adapt to a fast-paced environment, including field missions in challenging terrains. The role requires a strong commitment to safety and professionalism, ensuring that all transportation needs are met efficiently and effectively. The Driver will report directly to the Resident Representative and will play a vital role in supporting the Bank's operations in Guinea-Bissau, which is characterized by a complex political and logistical landscape.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: driving teams to meetings and field trips while maintaining a high level of professionalism; ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of passengers during transportation; maintaining the assigned vehicle in clean and good condition, including recording mileage and fuel consumption; conducting daily inspections of the vehicle to prevent breakdowns; collecting and delivering correspondences to government officials and stakeholders; following up on tax exemptions and vehicle registrations; and handling any fiduciary tasks assigned by the Administrative Unit. The Driver must also demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with officials at ministries and embassies, ensuring that all interactions are conducted smoothly and efficiently.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma and have at least five years of driving experience, with a solid understanding of auto mechanics. A valid driver's license for 4x4 vehicles and minibuses is required, along with a recent fitness certificate confirming the candidate's ability to drive. Familiarity with the geographical landscape of Cabo Verde and knowledge of the Senegal Country Management Unit (including Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and The Gambia) will be advantageous. Additionally, candidates should have a training certificate in first aid from the Red Cross and any technical training in auto mechanics or electronics would be beneficial. Experience working in an international institution is also preferred.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma. Additional certifications related to driving, auto mechanics, or first aid are considered assets and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of driving experience, with a strong emphasis on knowledge of auto mechanics. Experience in a similar role within an international organization is highly desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate the complexities of working in a multicultural and dynamic environment.
Languages: Proficiency in Portuguese is mandatory, as all interactions with local stakeholders will primarily be conducted in this language. Additionally, a good command of English, both spoken and written, is required to facilitate communication within the World Bank Group and with international partners. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
