Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Director a.i. and will be responsible for providing substantive support to the development, consolidation, and monitoring of the United Nations System Coordination Division (UNSCD) annual and biannual workplans, results frameworks, and strategic planning documents. The role involves contributing analytical inputs to strategic notes, concept notes, background papers, and internal briefs prepared for senior management. The volunteer will also support the integration of gender equality and women's empowerment priorities into UN system-wide planning instruments and corporate strategies. Monitoring progress against agreed deliverables and timelines, identifying risks, gaps, and emerging issues, and supporting follow-up actions will be key responsibilities. The position requires engagement with UN system coordination mechanisms and providing support to accountability processes, reporting, and capacity-building activities across the UN system. The volunteer will assist in preparing briefing materials and documentation for inter-agency meetings and consultations, ensuring effective coordination and stakeholder engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Corporate Coordination Support: Provide substantive support to the development and monitoring of UNSCD workplans and strategic documents; contribute analytical inputs to strategic notes and internal briefs; support the integration of gender equality priorities into UN planning instruments; monitor progress against deliverables and timelines.
Inter-Agency and UN System Coordination: Support UNSCD’s engagement with UN coordination mechanisms; provide support to accountability processes and reporting; assist in preparing materials for inter-agency meetings; document inter-agency meetings and track commitments.
Coordination, Partnerships, and Stakeholder Engagement: Support coordination with internal UN Women divisions and other UN entities; prepare analytical notes for engagement with Member States and partners; assist in organizing meetings and consultations.
Knowledge Management, Learning, and Innovation: Document and disseminate good practices related to UN system coordination; support the development of knowledge products and learning materials; assist in designing learning initiatives for UN Women and UN system colleagues.
Cross-Cutting Support and UN Volunteer Contributions: Perform other duties to support UNSCD; promote UN Volunteerism values; contribute to documentation and reporting on volunteerism and learning.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a strong understanding of gender equality and women's empowerment issues, as well as experience in strategic planning and coordination within the UN system or similar organizations. Candidates should possess excellent analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with UN processes and inter-agency coordination mechanisms is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values of volunteerism and the mission of UN Women.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, gender studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be an advantage in the selection process. Candidates should have a solid academic background that supports their understanding of gender issues and UN operations.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in areas such as project management, strategic planning, or coordination within the UN system or similar organizations. Experience in gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives is highly desirable. Familiarity with inter-agency processes and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders will be beneficial. Previous experience in a volunteer capacity or with civil society organizations is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is specified with the possibility of extensions based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. The position is full-time, and the UN Volunteer will receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) to cover basic needs. The VLA is calculated based on the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM) and is adjusted monthly according to the cost of living. Additional benefits include life, health, and disability insurance, as well as travel allowances for official duties. UN Volunteers are also provided with a settling-in grant if applicable and a resettlement allowance upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
