The intern will be involved in various activities related to green recovery and transition, supporting policy research, analysis, and translation. The role requires a commitment to UNDP's mission and values, as well as the ability to work in a multicultural environment. Interns will assist in organizing meetings and events, conducting research, and providing administrative support, all while gaining valuable insights into the workings of UNDP and its initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will primarily assist in green recovery and transition activities, which comprise 90% of the role. This includes conducting research and producing publications on international development cooperation, particularly focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals and the Republic of Korea's development experiences. The intern will document and package these experiences for knowledge exchange and triangular cooperation, as well as translate various materials between English and Korean. Additionally, the intern will support project management and event organization, including international conferences and workshops, by drafting concept notes, coordinating with partners, and assisting with logistical arrangements. The remaining 10% of the role involves supporting other ad hoc activities as needed.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: currently in the final year of a bachelor's degree, currently enrolled in a master's or PhD program, or have graduated no longer than one year ago from a bachelor's or master's degree. The ideal candidate should have a background in environmental policy, environmental science, environmental engineering, geography, natural resource economics, economics, climate science, energy, international studies, or a related field. Familiarity with project management and issues related to green transition and digitalization is desirable, as is experience writing analytical pieces and conducting translations between Korean and English.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being in the final year of a bachelor's degree or currently enrolled in a master's or PhD program. Alternatively, applicants who have graduated within the last year from a relevant degree program are also eligible. Fields of study should be related to environmental policy, environmental science, environmental engineering, geography, natural resource economics, economics, climate science, energy, international studies, or similar areas.
Experience: Candidates should ideally have prior experience working on environmental and climate projects or conducting policy research. Familiarity with project management basics and issues related to green transition and digitalization is also desirable. Experience in writing analytical pieces on relevant topics and prior experience in Korean-English translations would be beneficial. Proficiency in using digital tools such as Zoom for meetings and seminars is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English is required for this position, while fluency in Korean is considered a major asset. Knowledge of another UN language would also be advantageous, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, but UNDP provides a monthly stipend of KRW 1,169,72
Interns are responsible for their own expenses, including travel and accommodation, and must have the legal right to reside and work in South Korea. Interns are expected to work full-time, although flexibility may be allowed for educational commitments. They will accrue leave at a rate of 1.5 days per month and will receive off-days on official UN holidays in South Korea. Interns must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan and are not eligible for employment with UNDP during the internship period.
