Job Overview: The Senior Business Development and Grants Manager is a pivotal role within Mercy Corps, responsible for leading and managing all business development, pre-positioning, and grants functions across the Multi-Country Office (MCO) portfolio, which includes Syria, Jordan, and Yemen. This position is based in Amman and plays a crucial role in multi-country resource mobilization efforts, ensuring high-quality donor engagement, competitive proposal development, and effective grants lifecycle management. The manager will directly supervise a Reporting Officer and will work closely with country-level teams to ensure compliance with donor requirements and the successful implementation of Mercy Corps’ global ten-year strategy, Pathway to Possibility, which aims to achieve resilient, inclusive, and sustainable outcomes in various sectors including security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, water security, economic opportunity, and governance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Business Development and Grants Manager will provide strategic leadership and direction for program development, business development, and grants management across the MCO portfolio. Key responsibilities include managing and mentoring the Reporting Officer, overseeing strategic pre-positioning efforts, mapping donor priorities, maintaining relationships with diverse donors, leading proposal development processes, ensuring compliance with donor regulations, and promoting learning and continuous improvement within the business development and grants function. The role also involves coordinating multi-country proposal development processes, ensuring operational feasibility of proposals, and supporting program teams in responding to donor requests and audits.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a Master’s degree in International Development or a related field preferred. A minimum of 5-6 years of progressive experience in business development, grants management, proposal development, and donor compliance is required. Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, particularly in multi-country or matrixed structures, is essential. Familiarity with institutional donors and compliance requirements is crucial, along with strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, while a Master’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Assistance, or a related field is preferred. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively manage business development and grants functions.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5-6 years of progressive experience in relevant fields such as business development, grants management, proposal development, and donor compliance. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in complex multi-country environments, and a strong understanding of institutional donor requirements and compliance.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Middle East region would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and donors.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Amman, Jordan, with potential travel to Syria and Yemen as required, subject to security conditions.
