Job Overview: The Mechanical DesignEngineer position at UNRWA involves carrying out detailed mechanical designs for various building projects, including schools, hospitals, clinics, shelters, warehouses, and rehousing projects. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that designs meet the agency's needs, policies, design criteria, and local and international codes of practice. The role requires maintaining and applying existing standard details of mechanical works, utilizing relevant software, and reviewing drawings prepared by Technical Assistants or CAD personnel. The engineer will also contribute to the preparation of tender documents related to mechanical works, identifying non-standard items to enhance the quality of implemented works, and writing relevant descriptions for inclusion in the Bill of Quantities (BoQs). Furthermore, the position entails researching emerging models and technologies to identify new materials and techniques that can improve results and meet evolving requirements, while also considering environmental aspects and safety needs. The engineer will provide technical advice for alteration works, liaise with construction teams on mechanical design issues, and coordinate with other designers to optimize designs while maintaining the integrity of the buildings at minimal costs. The role also includes drafting terms of reference for consultants related to mechanical works and supervising their adherence to design criteria and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed mechanical design for building projects, ensuring compliance with agency needs, policies, and relevant codes.
Prepare tender documents for mechanical works, including specifications and descriptions for non-standard items.
Research and explore new materials and technologies to enhance design outcomes and meet changing requirements.
Provide technical advice and conduct special design for alterations to agency premises, including writing technical reports on mechanical aspects.
Liaise with construction teams regarding mechanical design issues during implementation and update design drawings based on as-built conditions.
Coordinate with other designers to optimize mechanical designs while ensuring building integrity and cost-effectiveness.
Assist in drafting terms of reference for consultants and supervise their work to ensure compliance with standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution. A minimum of four years of relevant experience is required, with at least two years specifically in design for public buildings and developmental projects. Proficiency in mechanical design software and computer-aided design tools, such as AutoCAD, is essential. Knowledge of relevant greening approaches and protection needs is desired. Candidates should also indicate their involvement in outside activities, which may include employment, consulting, teaching, or voluntary work, as this information is required for the application.

Additional Notes: This position is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The incumbent may be required to travel outside the Field in the Area of Operations as part of their duties. The salary for this position is set at Grade 14, with a monthly basic salary of JD 919.80, plus a 60% special occupation allowance. Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. The agency also provides sick leave, maternity leave, and paternity leave.
