Job Overview:
The Technical Assistant (CAD) position at UNRWA involves utilizing AutoCAD software to prepare all necessary drafting works for site surveys, schematic designs, concept designs, master plans, and detailed architectural, structural, and electrical and mechanical drawings. The role is crucial for ensuring the continuous flow of operations within the agency. The incumbent will also be responsible for creating 3-dimensional presentation drawings, diagrams, charts, and simple graphic works to assist team members with their presentation needs. Additionally, the Technical Assistant will produce hard copies of designs and plans for supervisor approval, assist Division Heads in daily operations, and create drawings for remodeling existing buildings and designing housing and shelters. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various team members to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare all drafting works necessary for the production of site surveys, schematic designs, concept designs, master plans, and detailed architectural, structural, and electrical and mechanical drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Create 3-dimensional presentation drawings, diagrams, charts, and simple graphic works to support team presentations.
  • Produce hard copies of designs and plans for review and approval by the supervisor.
  • Assist Division Heads in daily operations to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Generate drawings for the remodeling of existing buildings and develop designs and detailed drawings for housing and shelters.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a post-secondary diploma from an accredited institution in civil, architectural, or structural engineering. Additionally, applicants should have a minimum of five years of experience in AutoCAD drawing, drafting, and graphic works, as well as experience with engineering-related office equipment such as plotters and drawing photocopying machines. A good command of written and spoken English and Arabic is required, ensuring effective communication within the agency and with stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a post-secondary diploma from an accredited institution in civil, architectural, or structural engineering. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of the role and for producing high-quality designs and drawings.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least five years of relevant experience in AutoCAD drawing, drafting, and graphic works, along with experience in using engineering-related office equipment. This level of experience is necessary to ensure that the incumbent can perform the duties effectively and contribute to the agency's operations.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Candidates must demonstrate a good command of these languages, as they are essential for communication within the agency and with the communities served. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The contract type for this position is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, with a one-year probation period. There is a possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The position is classified at Grade 11, with a monthly basic salary of JD 710.100 fils, which may be subject to a reduced work schedule. Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. Employees are also entitled to two days of sick leave for each completed month of service, 14 weeks of maternity leave, and two weeks of paternity leave. The duty station for this position is UNRWA Headquarters in Amman, Jordan. Candidates must reside in Jordan and be within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of application. The agency will not cover relocation costs, and preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates who assist in achieving gender parity within the workforce.
