Job Overview:
The Medical Evacuation Officer will play a pivotal role in the WHO's Health Emergencies Programme, particularly in the context of the ongoing health emergency in Jordan. This position is crucial for providing technical and program management expertise to the Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) technical team. The officer will be responsible for scaling up medical evacuations from Gaza to Jordan, thereby contributing to humanitarian relief efforts and ensuring quality health services for critically ill patients. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including health sector partners, governmental authorities, and NGOs, to ensure effective MEDEVAC operations. The officer will also be responsible for maintaining an overview of the MEDEVAC situation, providing technical advice, and ensuring compliance with WHO policies and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Evacuation Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:

• Providing technical advice and coordination for WHO Country Office activities related to MEDEVAC.
• Maintaining continuous contact with health sector partners and stakeholders.
• Contributing to the development of MEDEVAC criteria and analyzing evidence-based data for recommendations.
• Acting as the key focal point for MEDEVAC actions and project activities.
• Ensuring programmatic planning and timely delivery of tasks by subcontractors.
• Leading the integration of project activities across geographical locations.
• Coordinating periodic reviews of programmatic and technical achievements.
• Analyzing incoming information and providing regular updates to stakeholders.
• Liaising with governmental authorities and NGOs involved in MEDEVAC operations. 1
• Implementing technical recommendations for project improvement. 1
• Overseeing quality control of subcontractors and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. 1
• Participating in the development of protocols and guidelines for MEDEVAC operations. 1
• Performing other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a First University degree in Medicine, with an advanced degree being desirable. Essential qualifications include a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in health sector coordination, particularly in critical patient care and MEDEVAC operations. Experience in designing and implementing mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions in humanitarian crises is also desirable. Candidates should have documented experience in operational and technical knowledge related to medical evacuations and the establishment of systems to address contextual needs. Previous experience with WHO, UN agencies, and national authorities is highly valued.

Educational Background:
The position requires a First University degree in Medicine as a minimum educational qualification. An advanced university degree in Medicine is considered desirable, indicating a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the field.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least five years of work experience with international exposure relevant to health sector coordination. This includes experience in critical patient care, transfers, and MEDEVAC operations. Desirable experience includes working with WHO or other UN agencies, health cluster partners, and recognized humanitarian organizations, as well as involvement in the development and implementation of strategies within WHO or UN agencies.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English and Arabic is essential for this position. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with stakeholders and for the preparation of reports and documentation. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is full-time and may involve international recruitment. The remuneration for the position starts at an annual base salary of USD 70,212, with additional benefits including a variable post adjustment, annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, and an education grant for dependent children.
