Job Overview:
The Web Editor position at UNRWA is a critical role within the Communications Department, reporting directly to the Director of Communications. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the design and usability of the Agency's website, ensuring that it meets the latest industry standards and provides an optimal user experience. This position involves developing new approaches, policies, and procedures to enhance the website's effectiveness. The Web Editor will supervise the English Language Website Manager and the Arabic Language Webmaster, ensuring that both language versions of the website are accurate and up-to-date. The role also requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Head of Creative Digital and Multimedia, to produce engaging web content such as stories, videos, and photo essays. Additionally, the Web Editor will analyze website performance statistics and implement Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies to improve visibility and user engagement. This position is essential for maintaining the Agency's online presence and ensuring that web communications align with UNRWA's mission and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Web Editor include:

• Developing and implementing new approaches, policies, processes, and procedures for the effective administration and improvement of the Agency’s website design and usability.
• Designing creative, interactive, and immersive webpages using web design platforms and content management systems (CMS).
• Supervising the English Language Website Manager and the Arabic Language Webmaster to ensure that both language versions of the website reflect accurate and corresponding content.
• Conducting regular reviews of website content to ensure it is up-to-date, accurate, and valid.
• Liaising with the Head of Creative Digital and Multimedia and relevant UNRWA departments to produce web content, including stories, videos, and photo essays.
• Coordinating with external programs on technical improvements and training related to web content.
• Analyzing website performance statistics and performing various SEO tasks to enhance website visibility.
• Collaborating with the Head of Creative Digital and Multimedia and Social Media Coordinator to improve services in line with up-to-date technologies.
• Assisting the Director of Communications in managing and producing compelling design and content for the Agency’s social media platforms. 1
• Providing web communications guidance to colleagues throughout the Agency. 1
• Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in computer science, communications, or a related discipline. Additionally, candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in a large national or international organization, with a focus on web management and new media. Knowledge of web communications technologies, including Drupal 11, is essential. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent command of written and spoken Arabic and English, as these are the required languages for the position. Furthermore, candidates should indicate their current involvement in outside activities, as this information is required for the application process.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in computer science, communications, or a related field from an accredited institution. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the technical and communicative aspects of the role, enabling the Web Editor to effectively manage and enhance the Agency's online presence.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in web management and new media within a large national or international organization. Candidates should have a strong background in web communications technologies and a proven track record of managing web content effectively. Experience in a UN agency or international non-governmental organization (INGO) is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the contemporary political and cultural affairs of the Middle East, particularly regarding Palestine refugees and UNRWA operations.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are Arabic and English, with a requirement for excellent command in both languages. According to the UN Language Framework, candidates must demonstrate Level III proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking for both languages. While knowledge of French is not mandatory, it may be considered an asset for the role, given the multilingual nature of the UN environment.

Additional Notes:
This position is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, with a one-year probation period and the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The grade for this position is Grade 17, with a monthly basic salary of JD 1156.600 fils, along with a Special Occupational Allowance (SoA) of 69.9% of the basic salary. Other benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution of 15.4% of the basic salary paid by the Agency, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. Additional benefits include two days of sick leave for each completed month of service, 14 weeks of maternity leave, and two weeks of paternity leave. The position is located at UNRWA Headquarters in Amman, Jordan, and is open only to internal candidates residing in Jordan. The Agency will not cover relocation costs, and candidates must have authorization to work in the duty station at the time of application.
