Job Overview: The Assistant Electrical DesignEngineer will play a crucial role in supporting the Electrical Design Engineer in preparing detailed electrical designs for various building projects, including schools, hospitals, clinics, shelters, warehouses, and rehousing initiatives. The position requires proficiency in CAD software to ensure that all designs comply with agency policies, design criteria, standards, and local and international codes of practice. The incumbent will also incorporate green elements and safety considerations into their designs to achieve cost-effective and reliable solutions. This role involves contributing to the preparation of tender documents related to electrical works, providing technical support for electrical alterations in agency premises, and collaborating with construction teams to resolve electrical design issues during implementation. The Assistant Electrical Design Engineer will also be responsible for drafting Terms of Reference for consultants, monitoring their work, and ensuring adherence to design criteria and standards. Additionally, the incumbent will prepare various technical reports and assist in updating electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions and evolving site requirements. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of electrical systems within UNRWA's facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing detailed electrical designs using CAD software for various building projects, ensuring compliance with agency policies and standards.
Contribute to the preparation of tender documents for electrical works, including drafting specifications and preparing descriptions for Bills of Quantities (BoQs).
Provide technical support for electrical alteration works, including assessments of existing electrical systems and remediation requirements.
Collaborate with construction teams to address electrical design issues during project implementation and update electrical drawings as necessary.
Coordinate with other designers to optimize electrical solutions, ensuring safety and integrity in overall designs.
Draft Terms of Reference for consultants and monitor their work to ensure compliance with design criteria.
Prepare electrical technical reports, design reports, and progress reports on a weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc basis.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
At least three years of relevant experience in electrical design, particularly in public buildings and developmental projects.
Proficiency in electrical design software and CAD tools, such as AutoCAD.
Strong understanding of electrical design principles, codes, and standards.
Ability to work collaboratively with construction teams and other designers.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to prepare technical documentation.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or institution. This educational background is essential for understanding the principles of electrical design and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in electrical design, specifically in drawing and calculations for public buildings and developmental projects. Experience with electrical design software and CAD tools is also mandatory, as the role involves preparing detailed designs and technical documentation.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages, as per the UN Language Framework. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is classified at Grade 13, with a monthly basic salary of JD 843.50, plus a 60% Special Occupational Allowance. Other benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. Additional leave provisions include 2 days of sick leave for each completed month of service, 14 weeks of maternity leave, and 2 weeks of paternity leave. This vacancy is open to internal candidates only, and applicants must reside in Amman and have authorization to work in the duty station. The agency will not facilitate work permits, and the appointment may be rescinded if a valid work permit is not obtained. Candidates may be required to travel within the agency's operational areas and may need to work outside normal duty hours. Preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates who support the agency's commitment to gender parity.
