The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) is an international organization established to implement the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). The CTBTO's mission is to set up a global verification system to monitor compliance with the treaty, which prohibits all nuclear weapon test explosions. The organization is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and operates a network of 337 monitoring stations worldwide, along with an international data center and a communications system. Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Quality Management and Performance Monitoring Section (QMPM) of the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) at the CTBTO. Interns are expected to engage in a variety of tasks that support the organization's mission and contribute to their professional development. The role involves assisting in the collection and analysis of performance monitoring data, maintaining quality management systems, and translating monitoring results into clear communications for various stakeholders. Interns will also support evaluation activities, contribute to the development of orientation programs for new staff, and help organize workshops and meetings related to QMPM activities. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment, working closely with professionals in the field of quality management and performance monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including:
  • Assisting in the collection, organization, and preliminary analysis of performance monitoring data, which involves preparing charts, dashboards, and summary tables to facilitate evidence-based decision-making.
  • Supporting the maintenance and updating of the current Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with applicable standards and internal procedures.
  • Aiding in the communication of performance monitoring results by translating complex data into clear, audience-appropriate messages for internal briefings, dashboards, and summaries for senior management.
  • Contributing to the preparation, implementation, and analysis of evaluation activities by conducting background research, assisting with data collection, and drafting evaluation deliverables.
  • Supporting performance monitoring and evaluation functions as required.
  • Assisting in the development and enhancement of the PTS Orientation Programme for newcomers, which includes drafting content, structuring materials, and coordinating inputs from relevant sections.
  • Helping to organize workshops and meetings related to QMPM activities and supporting any other QMPM-related initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and not older than 35 years. They should have completed at least two years of full-time study towards a degree in relevant fields such as Quality Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Data Science, Project Management, Economics, or International Relations. Applications may also be accepted from individuals who have completed their degrees within the last two years, including bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is required, along with good communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage assigned tasks with appropriate guidance is desirable. Exposure to or an academic background in a quality management setting is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this internship include having completed at least two years of full-time study in a relevant field, leading to a degree. Candidates must be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in areas such as Quality Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Data Science, Project Management, Economics, or International Relations. This educational background is essential for understanding the principles and practices relevant to the internship role.

Experience:
While specific work experience is not mandatory for this internship, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in a quality management setting, whether through academic coursework or practical exposure, is advantageous. The ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage tasks effectively under supervision is also desirable.

Languages:
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position. Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application.
