Job Overview:
The Communications Officer plays a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and developing high-quality communications products for various media platforms, including traditional media and social media. This position requires proficiency in both English and Portuguese to effectively engage with diverse audiences. The officer will work closely with program teams to ensure that communications products align with NRC guidelines and donor requirements. The role also involves liaising with national and international media, facilitating high levels of engagement, and building skills within the team to enhance the quality of communications outputs. The Communications Officer will undertake regular travel to NRC program locations to gather content and support program staff with communications-related activities, ensuring that the humanitarian situation and needs are portrayed in a dignified manner that emphasizes the agency of individuals in Mozambique.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the development and implementation of the Communications Strategy in alignment with NRC’s Global Communications Strategy; collaborating with colleagues in Mozambique and other NRC offices to create and monitor a communications action plan; traveling to NRC program locations to gather content; assisting program teams in developing visibility materials; crafting creative products that highlight the humanitarian situation; coordinating with media and communications colleagues at regional and global levels; participating in coordination mechanisms and forums; liaising with national and international journalists; overseeing NRC Mozambique’s social media outputs; managing feedback and complaints; developing communications-related tools and templates; and performing any other communications-related tasks as directed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Communications Officer position should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and a focus on results. They should demonstrate strong organizational and teamwork abilities, as well as the capacity to work independently. Sensitivity and high levels of self-awareness are essential, along with being approachable, trustworthy, and confidential. Knowledge of NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is considered a plus, as are proven presentation, training, and facilitation skills.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required for this position, ideally in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Candidates should have a solid understanding of communication strategies and tools, as well as experience in developing communication materials for various audiences.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a communications role, preferably within the humanitarian or NGO sector. Experience in media relations, content creation, and social media management is highly desirable. The candidate should also have a proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as the Communications Officer will be required to produce materials and engage with audiences in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region would be considered an asset.
