Job Overview: The consultant will be responsible for enhancing the quality of planning documents and donor reports for UN Women. This role involves consolidating and editing documents, reviewing donor reports for substantive content, and ensuring compliance with UN Women’s standards and requirements. The consultant will work closely with project managers and monitoring and reporting focal points to solicit necessary information and clarifications. The position requires the consultant to provide technical advice and quality assurance for six-monthly and annual reporting, as well as to prepare feedback and analysis for relevant UN Women offices. The consultant will also conduct capacity-building sessions and report writing workshops, both online and in-person, to improve the reporting capabilities of country offices. This role is critical in ensuring that UN Women meets the increasing demands for high-quality reporting and effective communication of results to external partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties include consolidating and editing planning documents, reviewing donor reports for quality and compliance, providing technical assistance and quality assurance for reporting processes, preparing feedback and analysis for improvement, conducting capacity-building sessions, and performing tier assessments for donor reports. The consultant will also be responsible for customizing training materials, collecting lessons learned in reporting, and packaging them for sharing. Additionally, the consultant will liaise with project managers and monitoring and reporting focal points to ensure the production of high-quality, reader-friendly reports that align with UN Women’s established standards. The consultant will report to the Regional Programme Specialist and collaborate with the Programme Assistant on contract and payment issues.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or other advanced degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The consultant should have a minimum of 7 years of high-level experience in reporting and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats. Professional experience in international development, project management, and resource mobilization is preferred. Proven experience in writing, editing, and reporting in the context of international development is essential, along with a strong understanding of gender-sensitive and results-based management and reporting.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or advanced degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and international development, which are central to the role.
Experience: The consultant should have at least 7 years of relevant experience in reporting and communicating complex programmatic information. This experience should include a strong background in international development, with a focus on writing and editing high-quality reports. Familiarity with the UN system and its development partners is required, as well as experience in training or coaching in reporting. Proficiency in using MS Word and Excel is also necessary for this position.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Strong communication skills in English are essential for effectively conveying complex information and ensuring that reports meet the required standards. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is home-based, meaning that no travel is required for the assignment. The consultant will work remotely and will be expected to submit high-quality reports and documents for clearance by the Regional Programme Specialist and the Deputy Regional Director.
