Job Overview:
The Operations Manager position at Humanity & Inclusion is a critical role that involves overseeing the implementation of the organization's 10-year strategy within the designated area of operations. Reporting directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director, the Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and impact of the program activities through effective management and delegation. This role requires a strategic mindset to contribute to the development and monitoring of the operational strategy, ensuring that the projects align with the overall goals of the organization. The Operations Manager will also play a key role in managing a team of program managers, fostering collaboration and communication among team members to achieve the desired outcomes. The position demands a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and risks, as well as the ability to represent HI externally in various forums and events, enhancing the organization's influence and partnerships in the humanitarian sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Operations Manager will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Management: Overseeing the management of program managers and ensuring effective team dynamics and performance.
  • Strategy and Steering: Contributing to the development of the operational strategy and its annual monitoring, ensuring alignment with HI's mission and objectives.
  • Standards and Expertise: Upholding the standards of HI's operations and ensuring that best practices are implemented across all projects.
  • Operational Implementation: Managing and monitoring projects under their responsibility, analyzing potential risks and opportunities, and proposing mitigation measures as necessary.
  • External Influence: Developing HI's external influence through participation in forums, building operational and strategic alliances, and representing the organization at events and in media engagements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Operations Manager position must possess a generalist bachelor’s or master’s degree in fields such as Political Science or Project Management, or have equivalent professional experience. Additionally, applicants should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in emergency, protracted emergencies, transition, or development contexts, with at least 2 years in roles such as Programme/Operations Coordinator or Area Manager. Proven experience in managing operations in highly insecure and volatile environments is essential, along with a strong background in donor relations, external relations, fundraising, and strategic positioning. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design and coordinate complex emergency, recovery, and development interventions, as well as possess strong management and communication skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Operations Manager position includes a bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant fields such as Political Science, International Relations, or Project Management. Candidates with equivalent professional experience in related areas may also be considered. The emphasis is on having a solid understanding of humanitarian principles and operational strategies, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 5 years of professional work experience in contexts related to emergency response, protracted crises, or development. This experience should include a minimum of 2 years in roles that involve program or operations coordination, area management, or similar responsibilities. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in highly insecure and volatile contexts, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in challenging environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the operational context in Ukraine.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a 6-month international contract, with the possibility of renewal depending on funding availability. The contract includes social coverage tailored to the individual's situation, such as unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals, a pension scheme, and medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution. The salary for this position starts at 2869€ gross per month, depending on experience, along with a per diem of 578€ net per month and a hardship allowance of 500€ net per month. Employees are entitled to 25 days of paid leave per year and a rest and recuperation (R&R) period of 5 days every 8 weeks, with potential transport or package support. The position is unaccompanied, and housing will be provided collectively by HI. For residents of Ukraine, a local compensation package will be offered.
