Job Overview: The Communications Specialist position is a full-time role based in Dnipro, Ukraine, under the supervision of the Head of Office and Field Office Coordinator. The primary focus of this role is to provide field-based communications support for FAO projects in eastern and southern Ukraine. The specialist will be responsible for documenting field activities, collecting multimedia materials, developing beneficiary stories, and preparing communication products that align with FAO's corporate standards and donor requirements. This role is crucial for raising the visibility of FAO's work and ensuring that communication inputs are timely, accurate, and context-sensitive.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Specialist will perform a variety of tasks, including: providing communications support to FAO projects in eastern and southern Ukraine; updating the FAO Ukraine communications plan; collecting photo and video materials from project sites; documenting beneficiary stories; drafting communication materials such as press releases and social media content; preparing visibility materials in line with FAO branding; contributing to social media and web content; liaising with project teams for communication purposes; ensuring compliance with internal SOPs; promoting standard communication tools; flagging gaps in SOPs; providing structured communication inputs for donor reporting; maintaining a list of local media; supporting field visits and media missions; collaborating with partners for donor compliance; ensuring communication materials are targeted and gender-responsive; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, or a related field. They should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in communications, public information, or journalism, with a strong emphasis on field-based content collection and storytelling. A working knowledge of English and Ukrainian at Level C is required, and candidates must be nationals of Ukraine.
Educational Background: The position requires a university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, or a related field. Candidates must have their educational qualifications recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in communications, public information, or journalism, particularly in emergency or humanitarian contexts. Experience in eastern or southern Ukraine is preferred, along with familiarity with the local media landscape.
Languages: Mandatory languages for this position include English and Ukrainian, both at Level C proficiency. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not specified as mandatory.
