Job Overview: The purpose of this consultancy roster is to create a pool of potential consultants who may be considered for future consultancy opportunities with Mercy Corps. Inclusion on this roster does not guarantee selection or engagement. The Business Development team at Mercy Corps is looking to develop a roster of experienced international development professionals who have a proven track record in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and proposal development. Consultants will be called upon to support the drafting of high-quality submissions for various funding opportunities across the region. The role requires strong technical design and writing inputs for both humanitarian and development proposals, and the consultant must be prepared to work collaboratively with teams on the ground, demonstrating flexibility to accommodate different time zones.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's activities will broadly include strategic pre-positioning efforts for large, complex bids, as well as immediate writing and proposal management support for opportunities already under development. Specific duties include providing technical input into proposal design for development bids aligned with Mercy Corps’ global strategy, drafting context and technical approach sections for proposals, writing needs assessment sections for humanitarian response programs, and serving as a consolidating writer to ensure coherence in proposal documents. Additionally, the consultant may be tasked with writing strategic papers or concepts in alignment with regional strategy priorities and may serve as Team Lead or Proposal Manager for strategic bids. Deliverables will be determined based on the specific proposal development needs identified by the Business Development Team during the consultancy period.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with a proven track record in successful program design, development, and implementation for various donors, including experience in both development and humanitarian proposal writing. Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Applicants with strong technical expertise in fields such as climate adaptation, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, market system development, social cohesion, and gender are encouraged to apply. Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, while a Master’s degree in international development or a related field is preferred. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of international development and the specific requirements of proposal writing and program design.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in program design and proposal writing, demonstrating a successful track record with various donors. This experience should encompass both development and humanitarian contexts, showcasing the candidate's ability to navigate complex proposal requirements and deliver high-quality submissions under pressure.
Languages: Native-level spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they align with the regions where Mercy Corps operates.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is open-ended, with potential engagements lasting between 3 to 6 months. The consultant will report to various team members depending on the specific opportunity and will work closely with Country Directors, Deputy Country Directors, and Country Technical Teams involved in the proposal writing process. The role emphasizes team engagement and effectiveness, fostering a culture of collaboration and respect.
