Job Overview: The Landscape Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a GEF-7 project aimed at achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) in India. This position involves working closely with the District Collector (DC) and the Landscape Project Management Unit to coordinate project activities aligned with the project document and results framework. The coordinator will engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies and local communities, to facilitate the mainstreaming of biodiversity into local governance and development planning. The role requires the development of landscape-specific annual work plans, administration of project budgets, and ensuring effective communication among stakeholders. The coordinator will also be responsible for preparing financial reports, managing vendor contracts, and organizing workshops and training sessions to build capacity among local stakeholders. This position is essential for driving sustainable development initiatives and ensuring that project objectives are met effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Landscape Project Officer in coordinating and implementing project activities as per the project document and results framework, under the guidance of the District Collector (DC) and District Forest Officer (DFO).
Coordinate with the multi-stakeholder Landscape Level Coordinating Committee to support the integration of biodiversity into local governance and development planning.
Develop landscape-specific annual work plans in collaboration with stakeholders.
Provide administrative and operational support at the national, state, and landscape project management unit, ensuring effective information flow and feedback among project stakeholders.
Prepare project expenditure reports at the landscape level.
Assist in the preparation of documents, guidelines, presentations, and follow up on operations and finance-related matters with state partners.
Facilitate data and information collection with sectoral line departments for project activities.
Maintain financial records, petty cash, and monitor systems to record and reconcile expenditures and other financial data.
Assist the Landscape Project Management Unit in managing vendor contracts and processing payments. 1
Prepare legal documents for contracting and procurement of goods and services, including asset maintenance and verification. 1
Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions, providing logistical support for these events. 1
Compile data and information from implementing partners for project reporting. 1
Interact with state departments to share knowledge and best practices for scaling up project initiatives. 1
Provide inputs for timely submission of progress reports to MoEFCC and UNDP, adhering to financial regulations. 1
Assist in tracking progress against the approved work plan and project result framework. 1
Perform any other tasks related to the project as assigned by the LPO, DC, DFO, and UNDP.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of project management principles and practices, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation. They should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and development partners. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in financial management and reporting. Candidates should be adaptable, flexible, and committed to continuous learning and professional development. A strong ethical framework and respect for diversity are also critical for this role.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, natural resource management, development studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position. Additional certifications in project management or related areas would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in project coordination or management, particularly in the fields of environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, or community development. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operational procedures would be an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Hindi or other local languages would be considered an advantage, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, and will require frequent travel to project villages. The assignment is expected to provide a monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA) of INR 70158.41, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 35
Relocation costs of $175 will be covered if the duty station is outside commuting distance. An exit allowance of $120 for each month served will be paid upon successful completion of the assignment.
