Job Overview:
The position of Local Project Coordinator is integral to the International Programme on Holocaust and Genocide Education (IPHGE), which is a collaborative effort between UNESCO and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This program has been active since 2015 and aims to enhance education on violent pasts, foster critical thinking, and promote sustainable peace. The coordinator will work closely with the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts to strengthen history education regarding the Democratic Kampuchea period. The role involves supporting the development of a teaching manual, organizing training for educators, and facilitating international policy training. The coordinator will also be responsible for project management, ensuring that all activities align with UNESCO standards and donor requirements, and contributing to the sustainability of genocide education initiatives in Cambodia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Local Project Coordinator will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the development of a teaching manual by coordinating reviews, drafting, and validation processes, and facilitating consultations with stakeholders.
  • Designing and implementing training for trainers and history teachers, developing workshop agendas, and assessing training outcomes.
  • Assisting in the organization of an international policy training on addressing violent pasts through education, managing logistics, and contributing to documentation and reporting.
  • Developing and maintaining a detailed workplan and timeline for all project activities, monitoring implementation, and supporting communication and outreach efforts.
  • Drafting an exit strategy in collaboration with relevant ministries and identifying fundraising opportunities for continued initiatives.
  • Developing project proposals and budgets for potential project extensions based on evaluations and sustainability strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in relevant fields such as Education, Peace and Conflict Studies, Genocide and Holocaust Studies, Human Rights, International Relations, or Public Policy. They should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in peace education, genocide studies, curriculum development, and historical education. Additionally, candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in conducting educational assessments and implementing educational programs, as well as strong analytical abilities and extensive experience in stakeholder coordination within the context of Peace Education in Cambodia.

Educational Background:
A Master's Degree from a recognized university in fields related to education, peace studies, genocide studies, human rights, or public policy is required. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of genocide education and historical context, particularly concerning the Khmer Rouge period in Cambodia.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, particularly in areas such as peace education, genocide studies, and curriculum development. Candidates should also have experience in educational assessments and program implementation, with a strong focus on Cambodian history and the Khmer Rouge period. This experience should demonstrate the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and produce structured reports with actionable recommendations.

Languages:
Fluency in both Khmer and English is mandatory, with the ability to draft texts in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the context of the work or the stakeholders involved.

The contract duration is for 11 months, and the position is open to external candidates.
