Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern will play a vital role in supporting UNFPA Cambodia’s communications and digital engagement initiatives under the Country Programme 7th (2024-2028). This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about youth participation, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, and fostering positive social norm changes. The intern will work closely with the Programme Specialist - Advocacy and Partnership, contributing to various aspects of content creation, social media management, and digital analytics. The role includes developing engaging digital content, monitoring social media trends, and assisting in the preparation of communication materials for events and advocacy initiatives. The intern will also have the opportunity to participate in periodic progress meetings, which will enhance their skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate, ultimately contributing to the visibility and impact of UNFPA’s programmes in Cambodia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks under the supervision of the Advocacy and Partnership Specialist. Key responsibilities include: assisting in the development of digital content such as social media posts, photos, short videos, infographics, and youth-friendly stories that highlight UNFPA’s work; monitoring social media engagement metrics and providing analytics reports to inform strategy development; contributing to youth-focused outreach and digital campaigns on SRHR, GBV prevention, and gender equality; assisting in the preparation of communication materials for events, launches, and workshops, including briefs, visual assets, presentations, and talking points; supporting adherence to UNFPA branding guidelines; and contributing to routine visibility efforts across programme teams. The intern will also engage in collaborative efforts to enhance the overall communication strategy of UNFPA Cambodia.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a specific interest in communications, advocacy, and enhancing the visibility of UNFPA Cambodia’s programmes. Eligible interns should have some relevant professional interest and experience, which may include academic coursework or practical experience in communications, media studies, journalism, public relations, marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing, creative writing, information technology, gender studies, humanities, development studies, social sciences, or related fields. The internship is open only to candidates of Cambodian nationality, ensuring that the opportunity is accessible to local talent.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and have completed one full academic year, or be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher). Recent graduates who have completed their degree within the last year are also eligible, provided they start the internship within one year of graduation. Additionally, candidates enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme may undertake the internship as part of their training.
Experience: The internship is designed for individuals who are either students or recent graduates with a strong interest in communications and advocacy. While prior professional experience is not mandatory, preference will be given to candidates who have relevant academic backgrounds or practical experience in fields related to communications, media, or social advocacy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to UNFPA’s mission and values, and possess the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Languages: Fluency in Khmer is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Cambodia. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UNFPA and essential for engaging with international stakeholders and accessing global resources. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, but is not required for this position.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, but interns who do not receive financial support from an external party are eligible to receive a stipend to assist with living expenses, which is paid at the end of each month. Interns are required to have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, and proof of insurance must be submitted before the internship begins, as UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns. Interns will be provided with a workstation within the office, but laptops will not be issued by the organization. Working hours are Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours a week, and interns may benefit from flexible working arrangements, including remote work, subject to supervisor approval.
