Job Overview:
The Food System Transformation Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the transformation of agrifood systems in Vietnam. This position involves conducting comprehensive research to develop a background and feasibility document for the TCP/VIE/4005 project, which aims to facilitate food system transformation in the country. The specialist will be responsible for mapping and engaging potential donors to support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Food Systems Transformation (NAP-FST). This role requires a deep understanding of the complexities of food systems and the ability to foster multi-stakeholder collaborations to drive sustainable change. The specialist will also contribute technical inputs to the Food Systems Partnership and its thematic working groups, ensuring that all stakeholders are equipped with the necessary knowledge and strategies to address food system challenges effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: conducting research to formulate a document that presents relevant background information and assesses the feasibility of implementing the project in Vietnam; performing a foresight exercise to evaluate the cost of Business as Usual and conducting a trade-off analysis to advocate for food system transformation; mapping potential donors to support the NAP-FST implementation; facilitating initial donor meetings to discuss collaboration opportunities; developing the project identification note; providing inputs into concept notes and funding proposals; offering technical support to organize workshops on food system transformation; and contributing technical inputs to the Food Systems Partnership, including the operation of its five thematic working groups focused on Policy & Institutions, Agroecology, Food Loss and Waste, Nutrition, and Distribution & Consumption.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree, preferably in Agronomy, Food Science, Environmental Policy, Economy, or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in food system issues in Vietnam is required. Additionally, candidates should have a working knowledge of both English and Vietnamese. It is essential that applicants are nationals of Vietnam or residents of the country with a valid work permit. Candidates will be assessed against FAO's core competencies, which include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Agronomy, Food Science, Environmental Policy, Economy, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of food systems and the necessary strategies for transformation.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in food system issues specifically within the context of Vietnam. This experience should include a strong understanding of the local agricultural landscape and the challenges faced in transforming food systems. Prior experience in project development related to food systems is considered an asset, as is any previous involvement in food system transformation initiatives.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English and Vietnamese is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful implementation of the project. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
