Job Overview:
The position of Communications Associate at WFP involves a critical role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the organization in Colombia. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating communication strategies that align with WFP's mission to eradicate hunger and support vulnerable populations. This role requires a proactive approach to managing information dissemination to various stakeholders, including the media, government entities, and the public. The Communications Associate will work closely with the National Communications Officer to develop and implement communication plans that effectively convey WFP's initiatives and impact. The position demands a high level of autonomy in executing specialized communication tasks, ensuring that all outputs are aligned with organizational goals and messaging standards. The successful candidate will contribute to the formulation and production of impactful communication content that mobilizes resources and supports WFP's objectives in Colombia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and execute specialized communication activities to support timely communication campaigns for target audiences.
  • Serve as a liaison with media and key stakeholders, providing regular information and messaging about WFP's activities, policies, and operations.
  • Plan events, ensuring the availability of materials, services, resources, and equipment.
  • Provide substantive support and recommendations to enhance the quality of communication products across various formats and audiences.
  • Monitor traditional media, digital platforms, and social media, relaying relevant information to inform communication strategies.
  • Prepare content in both Spanish and English for traditional media, social media, and other internal and external channels to improve coverage and support for WFP activities.
  • Conduct research, formulate recommendations, and assist in content development for communication platforms to enhance support and funding for WFP actions.
  • Promote communication guidelines and provide advisory support to ensure adherence to fundamental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the collection, preservation, and management of relevant information in appropriate databases for accurate record-keeping. 1
  • Manage a wide range of inquiries and information requests from internal and external stakeholders, utilizing specialized knowledge for timely and appropriate responses. 1
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external audiences to keep them informed of important information and execute harmonized communication processes. 1
  • Contribute to the improvement of communication methods and actions to enhance effectiveness and raise awareness among media and other interested audiences about WFP's work. 1
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of media coverage and social media engagement to evaluate the penetration of key messages and public agenda participation. 1
  • Facilitate coordination within the Communications Unit and integrate interdisciplinary competencies for effective and comprehensive product generation. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include completion of secondary education and a post-secondary certificate in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, Design, Visual Arts, International Relations, Public Relations, Cooperation and Diplomacy, New Media, Transmedia, Marketing and Advertising, or related studies. A postgraduate certificate (Specialization, Master's degree, or higher) in related areas is also required. Candidates must possess at least seven years of experience in national and/or international communications, with a minimum of four years specifically focused on developing communication strategies related to peacebuilding, sustainable development, food security, humanitarian assistance, or international cooperation. Experience in content formulation, management, editing, and positioning across traditional and digital communication platforms is essential, along with a solid understanding of the socio-political context in which humanitarian or development work occurs.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a post-secondary certificate in a relevant field. A postgraduate qualification in areas related to communications or humanitarian work is highly desirable. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication in a humanitarian context and for effectively engaging with diverse audiences.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of experience in communications, with at least four years of specific experience in developing communication strategies focused on themes such as peacebuilding, sustainable development, food security, humanitarian assistance, or international cooperation. Candidates should have a proven track record of formulating and managing communication content across various platforms and engaging with institutional actors, media, and community leaders. Experience in multicultural environments and with UN agencies or international cooperation organizations is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and a C1 level of proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
