Job Overview: The Communications and Outreach Intern will support the UN Trust Fund's strategic communications and advocacy activities, particularly in relation to the 30th anniversary campaign. The intern will be responsible for developing engaging content for social media and web platforms, enhancing the UN Trust Fund's digital presence, and visibility in alignment with its mission and legacy. The role involves assisting in the production of newsletters, conducting data analysis, preparing presentations, and performing various tasks to support the team's overall advocacy and communications objectives. The intern will gain valuable insights into UN Women’s work and the UN system, as well as exposure to projects and practices aimed at ending violence against women and girls. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives while developing professional skills in communications and outreach.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will support the implementation of the UN Trust Fund’s 30th Anniversary Campaign and related advocacy activities. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation, coordination, and dissemination of campaign materials such as designs, editorials, partner stories, impact data, and multimedia assets. The intern will contribute to the preparation of the UN Trust Fund’s monthly external newsletter by drafting and editing content, coordinating visuals, and supporting dissemination efforts. Additionally, the intern will assist in website maintenance and knowledge dissemination activities by updating and enhancing content on the UN Trust Fund website and knowledge platforms, ensuring that information is accurate, engaging, and up to date. Organizing and maintaining photo and multimedia assets, drafting and scheduling social media posts, monitoring engagement metrics, providing design and multimedia support, assisting with data analysis, and preparing PowerPoint presentations are also key responsibilities. The intern will perform other tasks as required to support the team’s communications and advocacy activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher), or in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a mandatory national service program of which the internship may form a part, or have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within two years of graduation. Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required, and working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is considered an advantage.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree program. Candidates who have recently graduated with a university degree are also eligible, provided they start the internship within two years of graduation. This educational background ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic foundation to engage with the complex issues surrounding gender equality and women's empowerment.
Experience: The internship is designed for individuals who are either currently enrolled in a relevant academic program or have recently graduated. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, familiarity with women’s rights issues, particularly in the context of ending violence against women, is beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate a self-starter attitude, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask effectively.
Languages: Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory for this position, both written and oral. Additionally, a working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is advantageous, as it may enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to communications efforts.
Additional Notes: Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs during the internship.
