Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the relevant IPBES bodies in preparing proposals for the implementation of recommendations from the midterm review report under the rolling work programme of the Platform up to 203
This includes developing a holistic indicator framework to monitor the implementation of the work programme, which encompasses performance and impact indicators. The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Senior ProgrammeManagement Officer and the overall supervision of the IPBES Executive Secretary, contributing to the preparation of written inputs, analyses, and facilitating online meetings as necessary. The position is part-time and spans a duration of 12 months, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake specific technical tasks related to the preparation of proposals by the Bureau and Multidisciplinary Expert Panel. This includes:
Preparing written inputs and analyses for the implementation of recommendations from the midterm review report.
Organizing and facilitating online meetings as needed to discuss and refine proposals.
Developing a holistic indicator framework to monitor the implementation of the work programme, including performance and impact indicators.
Liaising with secretariat staff and relevant technical support units to ensure alignment and collaboration.
Performing other duties as required to support the objectives of IPBES and UNEP.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental, natural social or interdisciplinary sciences, or a related field. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in natural, social or interdisciplinary sciences is required. This experience should include planning, designing, managing, implementing, and evaluating projects. Candidates should demonstrate proven organizational and management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances. Experience in writing and editing reports and documents for diverse stakeholders is also required. Relevant work experience with intergovernmental processes at the interface of science and policy is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental, natural social or interdisciplinary sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background ensures that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of the complexities involved in biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in natural, social or interdisciplinary sciences. This experience should encompass various aspects of project management, including planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating projects. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in interdisciplinary teams, demonstrating the ability to integrate diverse approaches into shared deliverables.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with a broader range of stakeholders within the UN system and beyond.
Additional Notes: The consultant will be engaged on a part-time basis for 5 months within a 12-month period.
