Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in providing on-demand technical support to select country offices for secondary data planning, collection, processing, and analysis. This position aims to enhance the capacity of country offices to extract actionable insights from existing humanitarian assessments, such as Multi-Sector Needs Assessments (MSNAs) and Humanitarian Needs Overviews (HNOs). The consultant will be responsible for transforming complex datasets into compelling visual products, developing knowledge products that synthesize evidence, and supporting country offices in translating data findings into actionable recommendations for humanitarian response and resource mobilization. The role also includes building internal capacity for data utilization and communication, particularly in the context of rapid gender analyses and strategic positioning within humanitarian coordination mechanisms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's core responsibilities will include conducting rapid secondary data analysis from various humanitarian assessments upon request from country offices, extracting and interpreting gender-disaggregated data across multiple sectors, and identifying data gaps. The consultant will also be tasked with producing analytical briefs tailored to specific needs, designing infographics and visual products to communicate findings, and developing knowledge products such as thematic reports and fact sheets. Additionally, the consultant will provide technical guidance on accessing humanitarian data platforms, advise on methodologies for secondary data analysis, and support capacity building through remote training and mentoring. The consultant will ensure that all outputs adhere to UN Women branding guidelines and accessibility standards, and will document lessons learned to inform institutional learning.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in statistics, data science, data visualization, development studies, humanitarian studies, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master's degree. Furthermore, a minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian information management or data analysis is required, along with demonstrated expertise in secondary data analysis methodologies and statistical software. Candidates should have a strong portfolio showcasing data visualization skills and experience producing knowledge products for diverse audiences. Familiarity with gender-disaggregated data and intersectional analysis frameworks is essential, as well as experience using AI-assisted tools for data analysis.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as statistics, data science, or humanitarian studies. Candidates with a first-level university degree and additional qualifying experience may also be considered. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding complex data analysis and visualization techniques necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in humanitarian information management or data analysis. Candidates should have a proven track record in secondary data analysis methodologies and statistical software, as well as experience analyzing humanitarian needs assessments. A strong portfolio demonstrating data visualization and infographic design skills is essential, along with experience working with gender-disaggregated data and intersectional analysis frameworks.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other UN official working languages, particularly French, Spanish, or Arabic, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is home-based, with the possibility of travel required for up to 2-3 missions per year to provide in-person support to country offices or participate in inter-agency data initiatives. The consultant will report to the Humanitarian Research and Knowledge Management Specialist at UN Women headquarters in Geneva and will engage in regular communication with country office humanitarian focal points.
