Job Overview: The Assistant Editor Consultant position is designed for individuals who are detail-oriented and eager to learn. This role is integral to the dissemination team of the IDB Research Department (RES), which is responsible for producing high-quality knowledge products that support the IDB's policy agenda. The consultant will assist in the production cycle of various publications, including working papers and research insights, ensuring that these materials are tailored to meet the needs of key audiences such as government officials, academics, and policy researchers. The position requires a strong commitment to quality and clarity in editorial work, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with authors, external vendors, and other IDB teams. The consultant will also play a role in curating the department's monthly newsletter, further amplifying the impact of RES research.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Editor Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: supporting the production cycle of publications by assisting with workflow management, quality checks, and coordination tasks; copyediting and revising a variety of content to ensure clarity and accuracy; assisting with quality checks of AI-edited and translated content; coordinating with external vendors such as editors and designers by tracking assignments and timelines; proofreading laid-out materials and collaborating with authors to finalize content; publishing finalized materials on the IDB website while ensuring compliance with organizational protocols; acquiring expert knowledge of IDB systems related to publication processing; and curating the monthly RES newsletter to keep stakeholders informed of the department's activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in English literature, communications, journalism, editing, or a related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. Additionally, applicants should have at least 2 years of editing experience, whether in-house, agency, or freelance, and should be able to present a strong portfolio showcasing their work across various media. Proficiency in both English and Spanish, both spoken and written, is required, while knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as English literature, communications, journalism, or editing. A Master’s degree is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the nuances of editorial work and communication.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant editing experience, which can be gained through in-house roles, agency work, or freelance projects. Candidates should demonstrate a strong portfolio that reflects their editing capabilities across different types of media, showcasing their ability to produce high-quality content.

Additional Notes: This is a full-time international consultant position with a contract duration of 12 months, which may be extended up to 48 months, subject to eligibility.
