Job Overview: The Antenna Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting the effective functioning of the UNESCO Antenna in Tripoli, Libya. This position requires the individual to work under the direct supervision of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Rabat, Morocco. The primary responsibilities include identifying suitable partners within Libya and the private sector, designing cooperative programs and events that align with UNESCO's strategic objectives, and developing innovative public-private partnerships across various domains such as education, culture, and communication. The coordinator will also be responsible for outreach and communication strategies, ensuring that all activities reflect UNESCO's strategic orientations and comply with established frameworks and procedures. The role demands a proactive approach to project management, collaboration with various stakeholders, and the ability to adapt to complex and challenging conditions in Libya.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will manage the daily operations of the UNESCO Antenna in Tripoli, coordinating project implementation with respective teams and supervising their activities. They will collaborate with Programme Specialists from different sectors at Headquarters and the UNESCO Regional Office in Rabat to ensure alignment with UNESCO's programs in Libya. The coordinator will liaise with national authorities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders as directed by the Director of the Rabat Office. They will monitor project progress, prepare regular reports, and support the inception phase and technical working groups for various projects. Participation in Programme Management Team meetings and maintaining communication with the UNESCO Rabat Office regarding operational matters is essential. The coordinator will also support resource mobilization efforts and undertake missions within Libya and potentially other countries as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in international relations, public or business administration, social sciences, education, digital transformation, or related fields. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to UNESCO's mission and values, with proven leadership capacity and high professional integrity. The role requires sound judgment, managerial skills, and the ability to provide strategic advice to senior management. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in relevant fields such as international relations, public or business administration, social sciences, education, or digital transformation is required. Additional courses or training related to the position are desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible professional experience, with a preference for three years at the international level within the United Nations system or other international/national institutions. Experience in project design, implementation, management, advocacy, resource mobilization, and partnership development is essential. Familiarity with development issues related to UNESCO’s areas of competence is also important.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) is mandatory, along with very good knowledge of Arabic. Knowledge of another official UNESCO language (Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered desirable.
Additional Notes: The position is a project appointment with a duration of one year, subject to extension based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. The role is open to both internal and external candidates. The approximate annual starting salary for this position is US$ 112,609, and benefits may include 30 days of annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
