Job Overview:
The Communications Officer in the Regional Studies and Analytics Division (MCDRS) of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department (MCD) plays a pivotal role in the department's outreach and communication strategies. This position is designed for a professional who can blend strong editorial leadership with strategic communications to effectively disseminate the department's analytical and policy work. The officer will be responsible for ensuring that the messaging aligns with the Fund's standards and strategic objectives, while also managing the editorial process for various publications. This hybrid role requires year-round engagement that goes beyond the flagship publication cycles, emphasizing the importance of consistent and high-quality messaging to both internal and external audiences. The officer will coordinate closely with the Communications Department and other stakeholders to shape the presentation of MCD outputs, ensuring clarity and accessibility of complex economic and policy texts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will undertake a variety of duties, primarily divided into two main areas: Editorial and Analytical Communications (approximately 50% of the role) and Outreach, Communications, and Coordination (approximately 50% of the role). In the Editorial and Analytical Communications capacity, the officer will provide editorial leadership and production support for MCD’s core analytical products, including the Regional Economic Outlook, departmental papers, and speeches. Responsibilities include line editing and substantively editing complex texts, acting as the principal liaison with authors and production services, coordinating proof reviews, and drafting outreach materials. In the Outreach, Communications, and Coordination aspect, the officer will serve as the departmental focal point for outreach, supporting senior management communications, organizing high-level outreach events, managing the department-wide outreach calendar, and ensuring alignment of communications across the department. The role also involves drafting recurring outreach products and providing functional guidance to contributors involved in outreach activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree or equivalent in communications, international relations, languages, or a related field, along with a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a university degree with ten years of relevant experience is acceptable. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to edit and rewrite technical material for non-technical audiences, possess proven drafting skills across various formats, and exhibit strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Candidates should also demonstrate sound judgment, flexibility, and resourcefulness in navigating institutional processes and coordinating across departments.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in communications, international relations, languages, or a related field. Candidates with a university degree and significant professional experience (ten years) may also be considered. The educational background should provide a strong foundation in communication strategies and analytical skills necessary for the role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in communications or a related field. This experience should include a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work collaboratively in team settings, and provide functional guidance to contributors. Experience in editing and drafting materials for diverse audiences, particularly in economic or policy contexts, is highly valued.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as the role requires strong writing and editing skills. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the IMF's operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively with a broader audience.

This position is a hybrid role, indicating a combination of in-office and remote work. The selected candidate will be offered a Term staff appointment if they are a contractual employee, while regular staff members will maintain their open-ended status.
