Job Overview:
The Section Head for the Nuclear Security of Materials and Facilities Section is a pivotal role within the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. This position involves overseeing the planning and implementation of projects aimed at enhancing nuclear security measures globally. The Section Head will ensure that the IAEA's nuclear security program is effectively executed, with a focus on preventing nuclear security events and threats. This role requires a blend of managerial skills, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, including Member States and international organizations. The Section Head will also be responsible for evaluating project outcomes and ensuring that the IAEA maintains its high standards of performance in nuclear security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Section Head will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: planning and leading the activities of the Nuclear Security of Materials and Facilities Section; coordinating the development of nuclear security guidance and conducting evaluation and advisory missions to Member States; managing projects related to nuclear security systems and measures; promoting research and development in nuclear security methodologies; coordinating training sessions and workshops; supervising the implementation of projects outlined in the Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plans; and representing the IAEA at national, regional, and international meetings. The Section Head will also be tasked with maintaining relationships with relevant international organizations and ensuring the effective dissemination of nuclear security guidance and best practices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, physical sciences, or a related technical discipline. An advanced university degree (Master's or PhD) in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience in nuclear security, including at least five years in a managerial role. Proven knowledge in physical protection matters, regulatory frameworks, and project management is essential. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required, along with excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages is an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with a Master's degree being preferred. A PhD in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or a related discipline would be considered an asset. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree may be considered if they have an additional two years of relevant experience, demonstrating the importance of practical experience in conjunction with formal education.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of ten years of professional experience in nuclear security-related subjects. This experience should include work on the development or enhancement of regulatory infrastructures in nuclear security, as well as nuclear material control and accounting systems at nuclear facilities. At least five years of this experience should be at a managerial level, showcasing the candidate's ability to lead teams and manage complex projects effectively. Experience in evaluating national nuclear security legislative and regulatory frameworks is also advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills required. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103,165, along with a variable post adjustment and various benefits such as dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, and relocation expenses. Staff members are entitled to six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, and are covered by a pension plan and health insurance.
