Job Overview: The Communications Analyst position is primarily focused on supporting the Syria programme within UN Women, while being embedded in the Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS). The role involves leading the planning and implementation of communication strategies that align with UN Women's Strategic Note and commitments to Women, Peace, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (WPS). The Analyst will conduct communication needs assessments, develop advocacy and visibility materials, manage media relations, and maintain the online presence of the Syria programme. This position is critical in amplifying women's voices and ensuring accountability to women's organizations in the context of Syria's evolving political landscape. The Analyst will work collaboratively with various teams and stakeholders, including government officials, media, and civil society, to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in Syria.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Leading the planning and implementation of communication strategies for the Syria programme, ensuring alignment with UN Women’s Strategic Note and WPS commitments.
Conducting communication needs assessments for Syria programme initiatives and integrating communication into programme design and donor reporting.
Monitoring political, media, and social trends relevant to Syria and preparing regular analysis briefs.
Developing and disseminating advocacy and visibility materials, including press releases, web articles, and digital content.
Managing relationships with the press in the region, organizing press conferences, and preparing media lines for senior leadership.
Supporting regional communications priorities and contributing to regional campaigns.
Facilitating knowledge building and sharing best practices related to Syria and ROAS programme goals.
Performing other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Syria Programme and the Regional Office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of professional work experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy, with a strong emphasis on social media usage and familiarity with office software packages. Experience in media relations and knowledge of gender and human rights issues are desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience, demonstrating the candidate's capability in the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy. Candidates should have practical experience in social media management and be proficient in using office software packages, including MS Word and Excel. Experience in media relations and familiarity with gender, human rights, and humanitarian issues are considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is desirable and would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The initial contract duration for this position is six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The role is expected to be full-time, and candidates may be recruited internationally or nationally.
