Job Overview: The consultant will work under the supervision of the UN Women Regional Communications Specialist and will be responsible for updating the UN Women Regional Programme, Joint Programme, and Country Offices website pages with relevant content and information. The role involves developing specific web-based projects and managing the digital content management system of UN Women and its approved web applications. The consultant will conceptualize, develop, and maintain webpages and web-based digital content for the EmPower project, ensuring high-quality, innovative, and attention-grabbing content for online dissemination. This position requires collaboration with Regional Programmes and Country Offices to modify and edit webpage assets, manage video and photo galleries, generate website analytics, and recommend best practices for website visibility. The consultant will also support the full website migration of UN Women Asia and the Pacific on Drupal and provide ICT client support to Regional Programmes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties include updating and maintaining the UN Women Regional Programme and Country Offices website pages, developing web-based digital content for the EmPower project, planning and designing innovative online content, modifying webpage assets as needed, managing the UN Women Asia Pacific video channel and photo gallery, generating website analytics for monitoring and reporting, recommending website visibility best practices, supporting website migration on Drupal, providing ICT client support, troubleshooting network-related issues, and backstopping web administration functions for the UN Women Asia and the Pacific Regional Office. The consultant will also be responsible for producing high-quality donor reports, human-interest articles, and other communications materials aligned with UN Women's standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The consultant should have excellent analytical skills, strong knowledge of UN Women processes and systems, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization. They should also demonstrate strong networking skills and the ability to work in a highly pressured environment while adhering to UN Women branding guidelines.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. This educational background ensures that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the job effectively.
Experience: The consultant should have at least 5 years of high-level experience in writing, editing, reporting, and communicating complex programmatic information in reader-friendly formats. A demonstrated track record of producing high-quality English-language reports and information is essential. Experience with gender-sensitive and results-based management and reporting is crucial, as well as an understanding of international development and resource mobilization within the UN context. Proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, and Acrobat Reader for copy-editing work is also required.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and the production of high-quality reports and materials. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly required for this role.
Additional Notes: The duration of the assignment is from June 1, 2026, to May 31, 2029, with a maximum of 200 days of assignment period. The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, allowing for direct engagement based on need and availability within the contract period for a pre-agreed fee. This is a home-based consultancy with no official travel required.
