The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002, primarily in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its mission is to save lives and reduce the burden of disease in low- and middle-income countries by supporting governments and the private sector in creating and sustaining high-quality health systems. CHAI operates in over 40 countries and employs a diverse team of individuals dedicated to improving health outcomes. The organization has expanded its focus beyond HIV to include infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes. CHAI emphasizes sustainable impact and collaboration with governments to ensure that health programs are scalable and effective. The organization values diversity and inclusion, recognizing that a variety of experiences and backgrounds contribute to its mission.

Job Overview:
The Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Zambia's HIV Access program, focusing on optimizing HIV prevention strategies, strengthening supply chains, and enhancing service delivery for prevention and treatment products. This position involves collaborating closely with the University Teaching Hospital HIV Access Program (UTH HAP) to roll out the injectable PrEP product, Lenacapavir, and ensuring that national HIV and PrEP guidelines are effectively implemented. The Associate will also be involved in resource mobilization and proposal development to secure funding for ongoing and new initiatives aimed at improving HIV prevention delivery in Zambia. The role requires a strategic mindset and the ability to navigate complex health systems and stakeholder environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support HIV Access activities across planning, budgeting, forecasting, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, knowledge management, and reporting.
  • Participate in the Ministry of Health (MOH) and CHAI’s agenda to support developments in the HIV/AIDS landscape, identifying opportunities for strategic program growth, particularly in HIV prevention commodities.
  • Collaborate with the HAP team at UTH on the implementation of the Lenacapavir rollout project.
  • Engage in proposal development and resource mobilization for new and follow-on funding opportunities.
  • Provide technical assistance to the MOH to enhance adherence to national HIV prevention and treatment guidelines and improve access to high-quality, low-cost prevention and treatment commodities.
  • Contribute to strengthening HIV commodity forecasting, quantification, pipeline monitoring, and inventory management, focusing on HIV prevention commodities such as Lenacapavir, Cab LA, and Oral PrEP.
  • Support emerging interventions like de-medicalization of PrEP to improve quality of care and decentralization of services, ensuring equitable service delivery, particularly through community and pharmacy delivery models for injectable PrEP.
  • Work with MOH coordination structures and participate in HIV treatment and prevention technical working groups.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Pharmacy, Health Systems, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in HIV programs, health systems strengthening, or supply chain management in low-resource settings.
  • Strong technical understanding of HIV treatment and national health systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working with government stakeholders and in complex multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Exceptional analytical, project management, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in fast-paced settings.
  • Experience working with CHAI, bilateral donors, Global Fund, or similar organizations is an added advantage.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Epidemiology, Pharmacy, Health Systems, or Economics is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary to understand the complexities of health systems and HIV programming.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in HIV programs, health systems strengthening, or supply chain management, particularly in low-resource settings. This level of experience is essential to navigate the challenges associated with implementing health initiatives in such environments and to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.

Languages:
While the job description does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is likely essential given the international nature of the organization and the need for effective communication with diverse stakeholders. Additional local languages may be beneficial for engaging with community members and local partners.

Additional Notes:
The position is likely full-time, and while the specific contract duration is not mentioned, it is common for roles in international health organizations to be tied to project timelines or funding cycles. The role may involve working closely with both national and international stakeholders, and compensation and benefits details would typically be provided during the hiring process.
