Job Overview:
The GESI & HSSE Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the Integrated Medical Waste Program for the Advanced Community Transformation Project in Bangladesh. This project aims to enhance the health system by establishing six medical waste management facilities in climate-vulnerable government hospitals. The Associate will report directly to the Project Manager and work closely with the project team to ensure effective planning, coordination, and implementation of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Health, Safety, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security, and Environment (HSSE) initiatives. The position requires a proactive approach to promoting inclusive workplace practices, safeguarding standards, and ensuring compliance with HSSE requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GESI & HSSE Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • GESI & HSSE Planning, Coordination, and Implementation: - Preparing HSSE documentation as per UNOPS requirements. - Organizing GESI awareness and capacity-building sessions for personnel and stakeholders. - Contributing to GESI-related monitoring reports and analyzing participation indicators. - Reviewing and updating HSSE management plans. - Conducting risk assessments and implementing preventive measures for HSSE hazards. - Planning and conducting workplace inspections. - Facilitating awareness sessions on HSSE and Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH). - Preparing incident reports and tracking follow-ups. - Developing monthly HSSE reports and analyzing leading indicators.
  • GESI & HSSE Monitoring and Reporting: - Conducting field inspections and monitoring visits to project sites. - Collaborating with project teams to ensure accessible consultation and grievance mechanisms. - Organizing HSSE meetings with contractors and documenting action items.
  • GESI & HSSE Compliance and Risk Mitigation: - Ensuring compliance with UNOPS HSSE requirements. - Conducting GESI risk assessments to identify barriers to participation. - Implementing measures to minimize hazards and environmental impacts. - Monitoring contractor compliance with HSSE plans and providing recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong competencies in accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, and self-management. The role requires a proactive individual who can effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, ensuring that GESI and HSSE standards are met throughout the project.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in social sciences, environmental studies, public health, or a related field is essential for this position. Candidates should have a solid understanding of GESI principles and HSSE regulations, as well as experience in project management and implementation.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in GESI and HSSE roles, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian projects. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or UN organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with medical waste management and health systems strengthening initiatives will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Bengali is mandatory, as it is the official language of Bangladesh. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UN agencies. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.

This position is based in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, which is known for its vibrant culture and rapid growth. The role is full-time and may involve travel to project sites.
