Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in the Migrant Protection and Assistance Unit at IOM Egypt, contributing to the implementation of counter-smuggling and trafficking activities under the Empowering Youth: Addressing Irregular Migration and Fostering Skills Development project. This project is part of the COMPASS Migration Partnership Fund (MPF), funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The successful candidate will assist in various project activities, including monitoring and administrative coordination, and will support the operations of the wider PXD portfolio. The role requires a proactive approach to project implementation, ensuring that activities are carried out effectively and in alignment with IOM's mission to promote safe and orderly migration.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will be responsible for a range of duties, including: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics; monitoring the project budget, verifying the availability of funds, obtaining necessary approvals, and updating budget-related information; supporting administrative coordination of project implementation by liaising with various organizational units and external parties; drafting status reports to identify shortfalls in delivery; preparing correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other documentation; organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions; responding to general information requests and inquiries; and maintaining files and records. The Project Assistant may also be assigned other related duties as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a school diploma with four years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Additionally, candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs, as well as experience working with migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable groups. Previous experience in managing or working with volunteers for community outreach on irregular migration is also advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related areas. The degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have a solid academic foundation to support their professional responsibilities.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or four years of relevant experience if they possess a school diploma. Experience should include liaising with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Candidates should also have experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups. Previous experience in managing community outreach initiatives related to irregular migration and working in multicultural settings with international humanitarian organizations is considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in one of IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish) is mandatory for all staff members. For this position, proficiency in both written and spoken Arabic and English is required. The language proficiency will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates can effectively communicate in the required languages.
