Job Overview: The position of Missions involves assessing the security situation in North Darfur and mapping local actors that influence its evolution. The role requires engaging in negotiations with authorities to secure necessary authorizations for developing activities at both local and national levels. The successful candidate will design a response strategy for North Darfur, taking into account existing budgets and potential new proposals. Additionally, they will be responsible for designing the necessary human resources setup and operational concepts, as well as representing the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director in local negotiations with authorities, partners, UN agencies, and donors. The position is set against a backdrop of significant emergency needs, a large volume of activities across various sectors, and challenges related to access and security.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess the security situation in North Darfur and identify local actors impacting its evolution.
Engage in negotiations with local and national authorities to obtain necessary authorizations for activities.
Design a comprehensive response strategy for North Darfur, considering existing budgets and potential new proposals.
Develop the necessary human resources setup and operational concepts for the mission.
Represent the Country Director in negotiations with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and donors.
Re-open the El Fasher office and expand the area of intervention.
Develop a multi-year programmatic strategy for North Darfur.
Coordinate with various teams to implement activities in WASH, Shelter, Food Security, and Livelihood sectors.
Address security constraints and ensure the safety of staff and operations in a volatile context.
A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector.
2-5 years of experience in a similar position, demonstrating leadership and coordination skills.
Proven ability to manage security and access issues effectively.
Strong negotiation skills and conflict sensitivity.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
Initiative and solution-finding capabilities are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field, which may include humanitarian response, international cooperation, development studies, or political sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the socio-political dynamics in conflict-affected areas.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 2-5 years in a similar role. This experience should include working in challenging environments and managing complex projects, particularly in emergency response settings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an advantage, while knowledge of French would be an asset. These language skills are essential for effective communication with local partners, authorities, and international stakeholders.

The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 3,140, which consists of a base salary of EUR 2,800 plus a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation costs and travel expenses. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, with an additional rest day per month worked. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions include a guest house with amenities such as 24/7 internet access and recreational facilities, although social life may be limited and a curfew is in place.
