  • The role involves assessing the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security situation, engaging with local authorities for necessary authorizations, and designing a comprehensive response strategy that aligns with existing budgets and potential new proposals. The Country Director will also be responsible for establishing the necessary human resources setup and representing the organization in negotiations with various stakeholders, including partners, UN agencies, and donors. The position requires a proactive approach to address the high level of emergency needs and navigate the challenges posed by security and access constraints in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assess the security situation in North Darfur and identify local actors influencing its evolution.
  • Engage in negotiations with local and national authorities to secure necessary authorizations for program activities.
  • Develop a strategic response plan for North Darfur, taking into account current budgets and potential funding opportunities.
  • Design the human resources structure and operational concept for the mission.
  • Represent the organization in local negotiations with authorities, partners, UN agencies, and donors.
  • Oversee the re-opening of the El Fasher office and expand the area of intervention.
  • Develop a multi-year programmatic strategy for North Darfur.
  • Coordinate with various teams to ensure effective implementation of programs across multiple sectors, including WASH, food security, and shelter.
  • Address security challenges and ensure the safety of staff and operations in a volatile context.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian response, international cooperation, development studies, or political sciences.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0-2 years in a similar leadership position.
  • Proven skills in security and access management, rapid needs assessment, and negotiation.
  • Strong conflict sensitivity skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field, which may include humanitarian response, international cooperation, development studies, or political sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the socio-political dynamics in conflict-affected areas.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a preference for those who have held similar leadership roles for 0-2 years. This experience is crucial for navigating the challenges of humanitarian response in a conflict zone and for effectively managing teams and resources.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an advantage, while knowledge of French is seen as an asset. These language skills are important for effective communication with local stakeholders and international partners.

The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 3,140, which consists of a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, along with an additional rest day for each month worked. Expatriates are offered a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations.
