Job Overview: The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Consultant position at UNESCO Tashkent Office is designed to enhance the visibility and impact of UNESCO’s programs in Uzbekistan. The consultant will play a crucial role in providing high-quality translation services for various publications, documents, and communication materials across UNESCO’s mandated areas, which include education, culture, communication and information, social and human sciences, and natural sciences. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that translations are not only accurate but also culturally sensitive and aligned with UNESCO’s standards. This role requires a deep understanding of the nuances of the languages involved, as well as the ability to adapt translations to fit the local context. The consultant will also be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to UNESCO’s core values throughout their work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Providing high-quality interpretation services, both consecutive and simultaneous, for UNESCO activities in online or in-person meetings, conferences, and other events.
Delivering accurate translations of written documents, presentations, policy papers, and training materials, ensuring that all translations adhere to UNESCO’s Style Guide and terminology standards.
Applying gender-neutral language in all translations in line with UNESCO’s gender strategy.
Maintaining clarity, accuracy, and stylistic consistency across all translated materials, demonstrating sensitivity to cultural and social nuances relevant to Uzbekistan.
Ensuring consistent use of terminology, abbreviations, acronyms, formatting, and footnotes in all documents.
Delivering completed translations in editable formats, such as Word, with tracked changes, and providing interpretation services as required.
Being available on an 'on call' basis for short or medium-term translation assignments, as placement on the roster does not guarantee immediate assignment.
Participating in translation tests or interviews as part of the selection process.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in translation, linguistics, philology, social sciences, humanities, or related fields. Additionally, proven experience in translation between English, Uzbek, and Russian is required, with a minimum of three years preferred. Experience translating technical, educational, cultural, or institutional documents will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate excellent command of English, Uzbek, and Russian, both written and oral, along with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in their work.
