Job Overview:
The Junior Professional Officer (Climate Change and Food Security) position is designed to support the FAO's mission in Indonesia by assisting in the development and implementation of programs that address the intersection of climate change and food security. The role involves working closely with various stakeholders to promote resilient food systems, adapt to climate change, mitigate food loss and waste, and enhance water management practices. The officer will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data, providing technical input for reports and plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop training materials and organize workshops. This position is critical in ensuring that FAO's initiatives are effectively aligned with Indonesia's national priorities and international frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Junior Professional Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Collecting and analyzing relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technological information to support program delivery.
  • Providing technical input for plans and reports, and editing/revising technical/scientific documents.
  • Participating in the development of improved work methods, tools, and systems.
  • Updating databases and web pages to ensure accurate information dissemination.
  • Collaborating in the development of training tools and materials and organizing workshops/seminars.
  • Assisting in the organization, conduct, and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences.
  • Evaluating the impact of projects and tracking climate risks to food systems.
  • Supporting resource mobilization and building programs around food systems and climate action.
  • Developing project concept notes and proposals, and facilitating climate finance initiatives. 1
  • Liaising with relevant agencies and institutions to ensure active participation in food security matters.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as natural resources management, agriculture, or related areas. Additionally, a minimum of three years of relevant experience in water management for agriculture, including technologies like Conservation Agriculture, is required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in English (level C) and have intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) (level B).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or equivalent, in fields related to natural resources management, agriculture, or other relevant disciplines. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of food security and climate change issues.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience, particularly in water management for agriculture. Candidates should have experience with technologies such as Conservation Agriculture and demonstrate a strong understanding of the relationship between climate change and food systems. Experience in collecting and analyzing technical information and data is also crucial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with a requirement for level C proficiency. Additionally, candidates should have intermediate knowledge (level B) of another FAO official language, which can include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish. This multilingual capability is important for effective communication within the organization and with international partners.
