Job Overview:
The Senior Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of epidemiology and surveillance activities as part of the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) initiative in Vietnam. This position requires a strong technical background in epidemiology and surveillance, as the officer will supervise staff and collaborate with national and sub-national health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security actors. The officer will provide technical support to ministries and partners, ensuring that infectious disease detection and surveillance strategies are developed and updated effectively. The role involves planning and implementing activities to enhance quality and performance, preparing project deliverables, and contributing to annual work plans, publications, and external communications. The officer will also lead the development and revision of best practice documents, monitor budgets, and provide thought leadership at the country level, ensuring that project activities align with work plans and technical expertise informs implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will be responsible for providing overall technical direction and guidance to project staff in the areas of epidemiology and surveillance. Key duties include supporting technical aspects of STRIDES Vietnam activities, monitoring project protocols and data sets, and ensuring adherence to company strategy and standard operating procedures. The officer will develop technical briefs and reports, conduct analyses to identify areas for improvement, and assist with research studies. Additionally, the officer will develop strategies and tools for the design and implementation of epidemiological components, monitor project deliverables, and lead technical project activities. The role also involves ensuring compliance with financial and administrative requirements, preparing reports summarizing project results, and maintaining quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of epidemiology and surveillance concepts, practices, and procedures. They should have experience in developing scopes of work and deliverables for partners and consultants, as well as a broader understanding of quality standards. Proficiency with database management software and online search tools is required, along with excellent organizational and analytical skills. Strong project management skills and the ability to influence and collaborate with others are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and have the ability to analyze and interpret data effectively.

Educational Background:
A Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in Epidemiology, Public Health, Surveillance, or other health-related fields is required for this position. A Project Management (PM) Certification is preferred, indicating a strong foundation in managing projects effectively.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have at least 6 years of relevant experience managing data collection and providing technical assistance. Documented experience in leading epidemiology and surveillance activities in Vietnam and working with relevant partners and ministries is essential. Experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization is preferred, along with international or domestic program development or management experience.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak clearly and professionally. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
