Job Overview:
The Water Technical Officer plays a crucial role within the IAEA's Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, specifically within the Isotope Hydrology Section. This position is centered around the implementation and management of extrabudgetary projects that aim to build analytical capacity in Member States. The officer is expected to provide expert technical advice on the construction, commissioning, and upgrading of water analysis laboratories. Additionally, the role involves guiding necessary training and capacity strengthening to ensure the effective operation of these laboratories. The Water Technical Officer will also work closely with counterparts to integrate water data into water policy and governance, thereby enhancing the sustainable management of water resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Water Technical Officer is responsible for a variety of tasks including planning, managing, and implementing extrabudgetary projects focused on laboratory development. This includes providing technical guidance on the application of various analytical techniques to determine the concentration of dissolved elements in water samples. The officer will write regular progress reports to project partners, coordinate with the Department of Technical Cooperation on joint activities, and liaise with external counterparts to ensure project needs are met. Furthermore, the officer will plan, organize, and participate in seminars, workshops, expert missions, and training courses as necessary, and contribute to reports and documents for senior management and governing bodies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or an advanced university degree in hydrochemistry, analytical chemistry, or geochemistry, with a PhD considered an asset. A minimum of five years of practical experience in applying analytical techniques for water analysis is required. Candidates should have substantial experience in conceiving, formulating, and successfully implementing laboratory research projects, including proficiency testing and accreditation procedures. A broad understanding of natural resource management principles, particularly in water resource management, is essential. Strong technical background and practical experience in nuclear techniques related to water resources management are also required, along with the ability to analyze technical and scientific information effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree in hydrochemistry, analytical chemistry, or geochemistry. A PhD is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in the relevant scientific disciplines necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of practical experience in the application of analytical techniques for water analysis. Candidates should have substantial experience in laboratory research project management, including proficiency testing and accreditation procedures. A strong technical background in nuclear techniques related to water resources management is also necessary, along with the ability to analyze and communicate technical and scientific information effectively.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package that includes a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71,335, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Additionally, a variable post adjustment currently amounts to US $40,162, along with dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation, and repatriation expenses. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, a pension plan, and health insurance.
