Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an international organization that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons. Established in 1957, the IAEA is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and operates in over 170 countries. The agency's mission is to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health, and prosperity throughout the world. The IAEA employs approximately 2,500 staff members and collaborates with various international organizations, governments, and institutions to achieve its goals.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies or interests. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with the IAEA's operations and gain insights into the workings of the United Nations. The program aims to benefit the IAEA's initiatives by leveraging the skills and knowledge of qualified students in various professional fields. Internships typically last between three months to one year, allowing interns to immerse themselves in the organization's financial operations and contribute to meaningful projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks depending on the specific unit they are assigned to within the Division of Budget and Finance. Responsibilities may include gathering and analyzing financial data to assist in the preparation of financial reports, participating in the design and implementation of new financial solutions, reviewing and documenting financial policies and procedures, and supporting the planning and monitoring of specific projects. Additionally, interns will draft reports and meeting minutes, prepare presentation materials, and assist with the monitoring of financial transactions, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end closing activities. Other tasks may be assigned as needed to support the supervising unit's operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in finance, accounting, business administration, information management, mathematics, or statistics. Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, is essential, with strong Excel skills considered an asset. Interns should demonstrate analytical abilities and a keen attention to detail, as well as the capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment. Good written and spoken English is mandatory, and fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards a first degree. They may apply for the internship up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important that candidates have not previously participated in the IAEA's internship program, ensuring that the opportunity is available to new applicants.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who are in the process of completing their higher education or have recently graduated. Therefore, while specific prior work experience is not required, candidates should have a solid academic foundation in relevant fields such as finance or business administration. The internship serves as a stepping stone for students to gain practical experience and enhance their employability in the financial sector.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for all candidates. Additionally, proficiency in any of the IAEA's official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) is considered a valuable asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the international context of the IAEA.

Additional Notes:
The internship is a full-time position, and candidates are expected to commit to a duration of three months to one year. Interns will receive no financial compensation for their work, but they will gain invaluable experience and exposure to the operations of a prominent international organization. Candidates must submit two signed letters of recommendation along with their application to support their candidacy.
