Job Overview: The Gender Data Analyst and Emergency Statistician position is part of UN Women’s Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS), which aims to advance gender-transformative humanitarian action across the region. This role is crucial in operationalizing UN Women’s strategic priorities by establishing a Regional Network of Gender Data Analysts and Emergency Statisticians. The primary function of this position is to support the rapid production and analysis of sex-disaggregated and gender-responsive data during emergencies. The role involves ensuring that gender data informs humanitarian programming and decision-making, thereby enhancing evidence-based humanitarian action and strengthening gender accountability in crisis contexts. The consultant will work closely with Country Offices to produce periodic gender data analytical updates and will be mobilized during sudden-onset crises as well as critical phases of protracted emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Gender Data Analyst and Emergency Statistician will be responsible for providing specialized statistical and analytical support for sex-disaggregated and gender data in emergency contexts. Key duties include:
Supporting rapid data generation and analysis during emergency onset and escalation phases.
Strengthening data quality, analytical rigor, documentation, and cross-country comparability.
Assisting Country Offices in producing periodic gender data analytical updates, including quarterly syntheses of sex-disaggregated and gender data produced under the SOP framework and gender analysis from UN Women’s program implementation and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
Ensuring that the specific needs, risks, and priorities of women and girls are systematically captured and acted upon in crisis decision-making.
Collaborating with various stakeholders to translate complex emergency data into clear, actionable gender insights for diverse audiences, including humanitarian leadership, clusters, donors, and national partners.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree in statistics, data science, research, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in statistics or data science combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates must have a strong background in gender data analysis and statistical methods, particularly in emergency and fragile contexts.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in statistics, data science, research, or a related field. A first-level university degree in statistics or data science may be considered if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience.
Experience: Applicants should have at least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in gender data in emergency contexts or data in emergencies. Experience working within the UN system at a global level and/or across multiple geographic regions is required, particularly in areas such as the Arab States, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered desirable, as it will enhance communication and understanding within the context of the Arab States.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is primarily home-based, but members of the Regional Network may be required to undertake short-term missions to emergency or crisis-affected areas, depending on security conditions and operational needs. All official travel will be coordinated by UN Women and conducted in accordance with their travel policies.
