Job Overview: The Gender, Protection, and Inclusion Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that gender equality, protection, and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of WFP's programs and operations. This position is vital for advancing WFP's commitment to accountability to affected populations and ensuring that assistance is accessible to all individuals, particularly those from marginalized groups. The specialist will be responsible for implementing policies and strategies related to gender equality, protection, and inclusion, and will work closely with country offices to ensure that these themes are mainstreamed across various programs. The role requires a deep understanding of the social, cultural, and political landscapes of the Asia and Pacific region, as well as the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders to promote WFP's mission. The specialist will also be involved in capacity building efforts, providing technical support and guidance to regional teams to enhance their understanding and implementation of GPI principles.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Gender, Protection, and Inclusion Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading the implementation of GPI policies and strategies in the region; coordinating with Global HQ to provide timely support to Country Offices; engaging with program services and operations teams to ensure strategic positioning of GPI; advocating for GPI integration in program strategies and policies; ensuring alignment with social risk, conflict sensitivity, and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse; supervising the implementation of GPI commitments; delivering capacity building support to regional teams; reviewing Country Strategic Plans to ensure appropriate GPI anchoring; and actively engaging with GPI coordination forums to enhance WFP's influence on GPI-related topics. The specialist will also be responsible for managing available capacities and resources to address technical support needs in the region.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in sociology, gender studies, social work, social sciences, development studies, or related fields. Alternatively, a first university degree with an additional 5 years of related work experience and/or professional development is acceptable. The role requires at least 7 years of post-graduate and progressively responsible professional experience in development projects or humanitarian assistance, with a minimum of 2 years of international field experience. Candidates should demonstrate experience in integrating GPI concerns into nutrition and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security-programming" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security programming and engaging at a strategic level with cross-functional teams to advance policies and advocacy.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as sociology, gender studies, social work, social sciences, or development studies. A first university degree combined with substantial work experience in related areas may also be considered. Continuous professional development in these fields is highly valued and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in development projects or humanitarian assistance, with at least 2 years of international field experience. Candidates should have a proven track record of integrating gender, protection, and inclusion concerns into programming and should be familiar with the social, cultural, and political landscapes of the Asia and Pacific region. Experience in emergency settings and facilitating workshops or training is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in both Thai and English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Candidates must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This position is only open to Thai nationals. The contract duration is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The role is classified at the NOC level within the WFP structure.
