Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub, specifically in the HIV and Health Group (HHG). The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Climate and Health workstream, particularly in preparation for the GCF Climate and Health Co-Investment Facility Coordination Programme. The intern's responsibilities will include conducting research and analytical tasks to assess the integration of health considerations into countries' reports to the UNFCCC, tracking progress related to climate and health initiatives, and contributing to the development of knowledge products. This position offers an opportunity to engage with various stakeholders and contribute to significant health and climate-related projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will assist in several key duties and responsibilities, which include:
Supporting the development of the climate and health portfolio for the Asia-Pacific region (50% of the role), which involves conducting desk research on how countries reflect climate and health priorities in their UNFCCC reports, compiling data on Health National Adaptation Plans (H-NAPs), and contributing to research briefs and case studies.
Translating proposals into UNDP templates and developing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools (25% of the role), which includes transferring collected data into required formats and designing M&E tools for effective project assessment.
Assisting in research and knowledge product development (15% of the role), which involves conducting desk research and developing team knowledge products.
Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to provide input on strategy development and project design, and performing other duties as assigned to support the effective implementation of HHG projects (10% of the role).
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
Currently enrolled in a final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), or
Graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one year after graduation. The field of study should be in Public Health, Global Health and Development, International Development, Science, Sociology, or related fields in Social Sciences or Humanities. Required skills include qualitative and quantitative analysis, curriculum review, database management, and knowledge product development. Proficiency in analytical skills for data gathering and research, familiarity with programme management, and knowledge of data visualization tools are also advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in fields such as Public Health, Sciences in Global Health and Development, International Development, Science, Sociology, or other related areas within the Social Sciences or Humanities. The educational requirements include being currently enrolled in a graduate programme or a final year of undergraduate study, or having graduated within the past year.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in qualitative and quantitative analysis, research, and data management. Familiarity with programme management and stakeholder coordination is advantageous, but specific prior work experience may not be mandatory for interns, as they are often in the early stages of their careers.
Languages: Excellent writing and drafting skills in English are mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration within the international context of UNDP's work.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, but UNDP provides a monthly stipend of THB 8,302.50 in accordance with its internship policy. Interns are responsible for their own expenses, including travel, accommodation, and health insurance. They must also obtain necessary visas and are expected to work full-time, although some flexibility is allowed for educational commitments. Interns are not eligible for employment with UNDP during the internship period and must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan. Additionally, UNDP has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
