Job Overview:
The Deputy Logistics Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Logistics Coordinator in overseeing the logistics activities of the mission. This position involves assisting with urgent tasks, supporting various bases, and implementing Solidarités International's procedures and logistics tools. The Deputy Logistics Coordinator will also step in for the Logistics Coordinator during their absence. The role is particularly challenging due to ongoing cross-border operations through Chad to Darfur, as well as the need to manage logistics in an unstable context where local market conditions are volatile. The first few months will focus on improving the procurement process, implementing logistics tools, and managing orders and deliveries effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Deputy Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: backing up the Logistics Coordinator, ensuring compliance with logistics procedures, supporting the procurement process, managing logistics tools such as KOSTANGO and KPI, overseeing the delivery and loading of supplies from Chad to Sudan, and maintaining accurate procurement files. The role also involves capacity building for the logistics team, ensuring that national staff are trained and able to operate independently. Additionally, the Deputy Logistics Coordinator will need to adapt to the challenges posed by limited suppliers and fluctuating prices in local markets, while maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BAC +5 degree in logistics or transportation. They should have specific skills and experience in importation and customs clearances, as well as experience in managing logistics in emergency and unstable contexts. Strong team management skills and the ability to build the capacity of the logistics team are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and possess strong adaptability and improvisation skills.

Educational Background:
A minimum educational requirement for this position is a BAC +5 degree in logistics or transportation. This advanced level of education is crucial for understanding the complexities of logistics management in humanitarian contexts and for effectively leading logistics operations.

Experience:
Candidates should have significant experience in logistics, particularly in emergency situations. This includes experience with importation and customs processes, as well as a proven track record of managing logistics teams and operations in challenging environments. The ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing circumstances is essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in French and Arabic is considered a strong advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and stakeholders in the region.

  • The role is based in N'Djamena, where living conditions are comfortable, with access to amenities such as hot water, air conditioning, and internet. The salary for this position starts at €2,475 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of $750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. Expatriates will also receive an insurance package that covers healthcare expenses and includes provisions for war risks.
